Re: Garand
So.....did it arrive? Tell us what you got! Have you dated it based on it's serial number? Shot a nice 4 pointer yesterday with my Garand. (our rifle season is in til Jan 6) Also took it to an Appleseed shoot last month. Love that rifle. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://vagunforum.net/images/m...

Re: Garand
You WILL send pictures, correct? :-) Can't offer much more than M1A did, but the CMP still has excellent ball ammo for the Garand. The Greek HXP is very good stuff and at .50 a round is a good deal. Others such as Hornady also sell rounds specially loaded for the Garand. Enjoy! [ Post made via Mobile...

Re: Ammo for the US vs. UK discussion
There is a middle age couple that live nearby that moved here from the UK. We had a yard sale and they stopped by to look and talk. One reason they moved here was the crime back in the UK, and their inability to legally defend themselves there. I'm not certain what they own now as far as firearms bu...

Re: Rifle Training Event at a Beautiful Range in Boone, NC
Ok, just completed Day 1. Awesome event! Great folks, love the history intermixed with great rifleman training. I learned a lot! 1). Trigger control 2) Proper use of sling 3). Natural point of aim and how to adjust for it. 4). Position tips Was a bit surprised that I was shooting the only centerfire...

Re: Happy Halloween
A bit off topic, but you know you live in rural America when the neighbor knocks on the door for Trick or Treat and is dressed like a soldier, complete with AR-15. It did appear unloaded, at least no magazine was in it.

Got an invite from the NRA-ILA today about a local meeting to get involved with Cuccinelli's election efforts. Anybody have any idea what this amounts to? Am very interested in actually helping but am not sure what such a "workshop" really means. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://vagu...

Seems a little scary that we've allowed the Fed to grow to the point they have 800,000 employees they consider non-essential.

Re: Rifle Training Event at a Beautiful Range in Boone, NC
Thanks for the tip, I had never heard of loading the Garand with 2 crossed rounds. Will be playing with that tonight!
Is the 03-A3 a choice for this event? Only holds 5 rounds of course.

Re: It's the gangs, stupid.
I especially like it when the AR-15 goes from being an "assault weapon" to a "high-powered assault weapon" such as was used to describe the rifle stolen from the trunk of a cop car yesterday. The 5.56 is a nice round and a high speed round but isn't a "high power" round.

Re: Rifle Training Event at a Beautiful Range in Boone, NC
Was planning to take the Garand and the 1903-A3 Springfield. I shoot both regularly but have never shot 400 rounds in 2 days which is what seems to be typical for the clinic. Am really looking forward to it! Might bring the M1 carbine or Enfield but have a bunch more 30-06 than those calibers. [ Pos...

Re: Rifle Training Event at a Beautiful Range in Boone, NC
Sold me! I signed up and will be heading down there in Nov. Sounds like an interesting mix of rifle fundementals and history. may need orthopedic surgery after shooting 400 rounds of 30-06 over 2 days though.

Re: What will become of the CMP now?
But what a brilliant move on the part of our Beloved Leader. I mean, these carbines and Garands are used so much by criminals. It seems like just yesterday Patty Hearst was toting a carbine during her reign of terror..........well, that was maybe 30 years ago but still. I feel so much safer. [ Post ...

Re: What will become of the CMP now?
Correct. Their guns are donated to them from the military. Many are returns from our allies, such as the Greek Garands. Orest Michaels, their Chief Operating Officer posted o their website today that although they are still reviewing the new order he didn't see it affecting them. [ Post made via Mob...

Re: Vintage Gun Porn
The M1 was manufactured by Springfield Armory (the original, Federally owned armory that was closed down in the late 60's and is now a museum) in 1945. It's been through at least one arsenal rebuild at some point and the stock was replaced with a very nice walnut replacement by the CMP. I have not i...

"but I'm horrible with id-ing games" Oops, sorry. I guess some ID might be a good idea! In the top picture, from bottom to top they are: M1 Carbine in .30 carbine. M1 in 30.06 M1903A3 in 30.06 Rifle No 4, Mk 1 (British Lee-Enfield) in .303 British M1893 Mauser, rechambered in 1939 8mm Maus...
