If the GOP became the part of civil rights (for everyone. Including pushing to end the asinine "war on drugs" and take on the military and prison industrial complexes to prove their fiscal ducks are in order) and went back to the big tent thing they'd be unstoppable.
That...won't happen though.

Exactly. They want to spend as much as Democrats (just in different areas) and they want to control people's lives as much as Democrats (just in different areas). And when they wonder why they lost, they'll put out a half-hearted attempt to pander to demographics for a month or so.Kreutz wrote:If the GOP became the part of civil rights (for everyone. The article suggests that "too conservative" is a bad thing.
The latest offerings from the GOP haven't been very conservative at all, and now we finally get a real conservative, and they want to say that he's too conservative?

Ken is just my style. He is a politician of course, and that means he is going to have issues. However I agree with Ken 85% of the time. I all depends on voter turn out.
The article focused on Ken's conservatism, but not the dirtiness of the ads and not the ungodly amount of bloombergs $$ that has been spent here on the nastiest of adds. Some of them are outright lies I saw one last night that Ken opposes contraception....what nonsense he opposes a abortion, something that most of the country does as well. Abortion is not contraception. The article did not focus on the fact that there is a third contender Sarvis which will likely draw more votes from Ken than McAwful.
If Ken Cucchinelli loses it will be because of the lies told about him, loud enough and long enough that people could not hear anything he said. Sarvis does not help, but it is not his conservatism that is making life hard. It is an evil trifecta of being outspent, lied about in screaming tones for a long time, and yes Sarvis siphoning off votes.

Got a link to something that states Cooch's position on contraception? I would love to see that.

Re: What the VA governor's race tells us about the 2014 midterms
The Commercial I saw sponsored by Cuchinelli said that he was not in favor of limiting a womans access to contraception. As I understand his position he does not think that it is the gov't business about contraception up to and including the morning after pill, but not RU-486 which is (and is VERY dangerous to boot).
If you want to know his position on things I suggest you go to his campaign page.

Got an invite from the NRA-ILA today about a local meeting to get involved with Cuccinelli's election efforts. Anybody have any idea what this amounts to? Am very interested in actually helping but am not sure what such a "workshop" really means.

Re: What the VA governor's race tells us about the 2014 midterms
I am tired of the contraception/abortion stuff, personally.
I do not want an abortion to happen, but I also do not want to have to support people who decide to have babies they cannot properly care for/do not want to care for. I say let people have abortions, and lets focus on things that matter.
Right now we need to focus on paying debts, and maintaining/regaining our freedoms.

I cannot, in good conscience, support allowing abortion. It DOES matter. We are supposed to be just. I see a horrible failure of justice when we allow the most brutal of murders committed against the most innocent amongst us.
Any woman that would have her unborn child murdered is worse than those guys who shot that baby in the face in front of his mother.

Re: What the VA governor's race tells us about the 2014 midterms
I'm not saying I am for abortion, if that is what you are getting from my comment. Personally, I think our government has to write legislation to determine when life begins, and therefore, the rights of the people are invoked.
What I am saying is that there are more pressing issues at the moment, like our freedoms as citizens, spying, paying our bills, etc.
If we put every issue as non-negotiable, we will never reach a consensus to build from.

No, Remek, I caught that you were not personally pro-abortion. I was simply stating that I cannot concede my position on the matter, and why.
It seems to me that the socialist-based wing has gotten as far as they have by being unwilling to negotiate. They may appear willing to negotiate, but what they are actually doing is being so obnoxious for a long period of time that they get US to negotiate our rights away a little at a time. And every time we negotiate, we lose a little bit more.
No. Now is the time to stop negotiating. We've been doing it atleast since the end of the second world war, and it has cost us far too much.

We know very well what the progressive/democraps have in mind.
Amazing you're not against them and with each other.
Sometimes independent/libertarian means sheeple when you can't agree on the GOAL and win like the liberals.
I don't care WHO the anti progressive candidate is! I don't have to be 100% in agreement with an anti progressive candidate. We must defeat the progressive agenda!
Vote for the MOST CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE THAT CAN WIN!
This is getting stupid!

If Ken loses then the story will be exactly that he was "too conservative" and that a tea party conservative can't win in the battle ground states. And a loss will have ramifications for several election cycles. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, or any other Tea Party aligned Presidential candidate will be pounded in the primaries that the Virginia loss proved they are "too conservative" and can't win the battle ground states. And then we'll be stuck with another squish candidate like John McCain or Mitt Romney in 2016....

NRA-ILA, I believe, is fielding it's own effort to help in the election. They have targeted people who are friendly on 2nd A type issues but don't normally vote in an off year election. They'll need people to call them, or knock doors to get out the vote so that's probably what the workshop is about (guess on my part).WFarm wrote:Got an invite from the NRA-ILA today about a local meeting to get involved with Cuccinelli's election efforts. But, if you do want to be involved we could always use the help. The campaign is knocking doors and making calls every day and always seeking volunteers to help.
