A few infantry rifles from WWII. Which one would YOU like to have been issued (or were issued!) ?

Oops, sorry. I guess some ID might be a good idea! In the top picture, from bottom to top they are:

M1 Carbine in .30 carbine.
M1 in 30.06
M1903A3 in 30.06
Rifle No 4, Mk 1 (British Lee-Enfield) in .303 British
M1893 Mauser, rechambered in 1939 8mm Mauser.

For the M1, did you install the adjustable gas port? Manufacturer? Is it correct? They sure look nice.

The M1 was manufactured by Springfield Armory (the original, Federally owned armory that was closed down in the late 60's and is now a museum) in 1945. It's been through at least one arsenal rebuild at some point and the stock was replaced with a very nice walnut replacement by the CMP. I have not installed an adjustable gas port, but I only shoot military M2 ball ammo thru it so really don't need to.

I'll show my age since my Dad and his contemporaries mostly trained on and carried the M1 into combat in WWII. A few friends of the family fought with the the M1 in Korea. I grew up being told that the M1 was the best rifle of all, and the 1903 A3 Springfield was a great bolt action.

Knowing I would have to fight, the M1 would have been my first choice. George Patton was quoted as saying the M1 was the finest implement of war invented to that time.

Also, I have heard and read numbers of good comments on the Enfield - durability, accuracy and a very high rate of fire for a bolt action.

Those are fine looking rifles for sure!

I love my M1, and still regret selling the 1903-A3 I used to own.

Those are all very nice rifles.

Garand,for sure

Drilled with, and could field strip and reassemble the M1 Garand while I was in the USNR.
Shot a Garand while in boot camp.

Years later I qualified Expert with a 1911.

Other than when I took the BAsic Pistol course with my 10 year old daughter, I have never fired a 9 x 19.
I put a few rounds through my .380 (9 x 17) before I sold it.
