Re: Mosin Nagant 91/30 fun!

540usmcvet, AWESOME find on that Mosin stock! I don't regret ordering the bluegrass tactical stock one bit, but I think I'm going to need a second Mosin in this stock to go with it. lol Very cool. It seems that I now regret writing these words... I jinxed it! I have had quite the poor experience wi...

Re: Ruger 10/22 barrel

I highly recommend the Green Mountain barrels. I have a fluted .920" barrel on my 10/22. Not threaded, but the same performance as those that are. It's a tack driver compared to the tapered pencil-thin barrel the 10/22 ships with!

Re: So, Did I Screw Up, Or???

You didn't do anything wrong or illegal. At no point were you aiming the weapon at someone or deliberately threatening/intimidating someone with your pistol. VA is an open carry state, and if you have a CHP, you have very few restrictions on what you can carry and when/where in this state, and you w...

Re: 22 range plinker

I strongly recommend the Beretta Neos. It looks like a gun out of RoboCop, but it's the most accurate .22LR pistol I've fired. I have the 4" and 6" barrels for mine, and the 6" (with Burris Fast Fire III optic) lives on the pistol. Even novice shooters can consistently get 1" gro...

Re: What is a good sight for an AR-15? I heard TruGlo

If you're even considering TruGlo, you are on a tight budget. Consider the Primary Arms optics. They make inexpensive (not cheap) red dots and magnifiers that kick serious ass for about 1/4th to 1/5th the cost of an Aimpoint or EoTech, while doing 90% of what they're capable of at the range... thoug...

I was recently accepted to ODU's physical therapy school and will be moving to Norfolk soon. Is there any places to shoot that anyone would recommend? Also, any information on where to live would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I have been looking and are trying to take in any recommendations t...

And in 30 days, you can apply for a concealed carry permit. Welcome to the South! There is no 30 day wait in Va. You can apply for a permit on day 1 of being a resident. jrswanson1 might be referring to the fact that both your primary and secondary IDs for buying a firearm and applying for a concea...

Re: So now they are saying the to prep for up to 2 weeks

I like all of the government's recent prepper advice! 2 weeks of food & water on hand? Check. Buy a shotgun? Couldn't hurt to have another 12ga. Keep batteries and first aid gear on hand? Done and done. Learn emergency trauma/medical techniques like suturing and use of a tourniquet? Yep. Keep a ...

Re: I hate Ammo profiteers

I'd be just tickled pink if I could get a damn box of .22LR for my plinkers for less than the cost per round of 9mm. If you're buying up all available ammo to re-sell at gouging prices, that's your business, but you're frankly an ass if you do that. I hope the profiteers buy it at high prices and wa...

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, guns weren't the only things I shot at the range recently! First, as basis for comparison, here is comparatively mild Speer Lawman 9mm 124gr fired out of a Springfield XD 9mm subcompact. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/62714_10100467455642277_17...

Re: Mossberg 500 Field 12ga

My M500 Field was my first gun purchase, nearly 10 years ago. I love it! For skeet shooting I use the 28" barrel w/ full choke, and it dusts clays. For home defense, Federal XM127 00 buckshot patterns very tight out of the 18" cylinder-choke barrel at 10 yards. For hunting, the 28" ba...

Re: Anyone heard of The Bug Out Box?

Don't give those folks $28 a month. For under $150 (likely significantly less as you probably have most everything you need already) you can put together a good 72-hour kit to keep in your car or at home, and a get-home bag (GHB) to get you from your office to your home. Here are a pair of good, lay...

I'd totally go to one of these with my girlfriend if I could find some reasonably priced .22 ammo. I refuse to pay 9mm prices per round for .22LR!

Re: mounting scope on Nagant?

The main reason to fix up an old 91/30 is that the ammo is cheaper than 9mm. Buy lots and lots of the surplus stuff while it lasts! I buy two tins every time I restock (once a year) - 440 rounds for shooting, 440 rounds for shooting LATER. $160+ shipping for 880 rounds here: http://www.dansammo.com/...

Re: Beretta may leave Maryland

Hopefully Beretta follows MagPul's example and hits Maryland where it hurts: in the pocketbook. Beretta pays a few million dollars annually in taxes for Maryland, and their employees do too. I for one would be happy to have Beretta here in VA. The company’s Italian patriarch, Ugo Gussalli Beretta, v...

Re: mounting scope on Nagant?

Don't drill your rifle if you don't have to. Look into the JMECK scope mount (google is your friend). Get yourself a bent bolt body from Rocky Mountain Industries, too. I have a 10-40x50 optic on my 91/30, and with modern ammo, you can drill 5 shots through a nickle-sized hole at 100 yards if your r...
