Hello, everyone.
Where would one locate the state approved list of handguns?

There is no such list. All handguns that are legal to own in the United States are legal to own in Virginia.

Thank You for the reply.
So there is no limit on cartridge capacity?
No requirements for DA trigger pull weight?

Re: Attorney General approved handguns
No limit to capacity except in the localities specifically mentioned above, and that limit goes away if you have a CHP.
Trigger pull weight? Where are you coming from that has a restriction on trigger pull weight? I have to guess California?

The NRA has a minimum trigger pull force limit listed in the rules for some of their competitions and/or qualifications.allingeneral wrote:No limit to capacity except in the localities specifically mentioned above, and that limit goes away if you have a CHP.

I think it's 2 lbf. But I could be wrong.
If I get time later I'll try to find a citation on the NRA site and then edit this post.
EDIT: OK, that was quick.

NRA Conventional Pistol Rules has "trigger pull" mentioned ten times.
The minimum trigger pull force values are different for different situations and gun types.
2 lbf min. for revolvers and 3.5 lbf for .45 cal semi-autos caught my eye. There are other values mentioned.

And in 30 days, you can apply for a concealed carry permit. Welcome to the South!

Sounds like a Masshole. A couple states make California appear gun friendly, and Massachusets is one.

You'd have to move to a place that craps on your rights first... DC is just a few hours up the road.DW44VH wrote:Where would one locate the state approved list of handguns?

NRA Bullseye limit centerfire/.45acp to no less than 3.5lbs and .22 to no less than 2.5lbs. This is for competition purposes.

Re: Attorney General approved handguns
As others have noted, there is no list in VA. That "consumer safety" nonsense is just another way to regulate firearms and make them more nanny-state acceptable. They're potentially dangerous objects just like many other tools, so they carry warning labels (which in of itself is kind of absurd, but lawyers...). It's not like we've had a rash of firearm products that are blowing up and causing injury to their operators; that's relatively rare. The products are in general performing as they were intended too and as the consumers bought them for.
There are some minor restrictions on what you can carry, but not ownership. As other have noted, those restrictions go away with a CHP.
Of course competitions have various rules and regulations.

There is no 30 day wait in Va. You can apply for a permit on day 1 of being a resident.jrswanson1 wrote:And in 30 days, you can apply for a concealed carry permit. Welcome to the South!

jrswanson1 might be referring to the fact that both your primary and secondary IDs for buying a firearm and applying for a concealed carry permit must have your current address, matching address, and be at least 30 days from the date of issue.ProShooter wrote:There is no 30 day wait in Va. Re: Attorney General approved handguns
Welcome to the Free Commonwealth of VA. Others have answered you basic question. VA is an open carry state (no permit required) as well as a must-issue concealed carry state. A friend of mine who is relatively new to VA bought a new pistol last year. He asked the seller how he was permitted to transport it home - locked in the trunk, etc. The seller correctly replied that this is VA and that he could sit the pistol on his dashboard loaded if my friend wanted to do so.DW44VH wrote:Hello, everyone.

There is no sch requirement that pertains to the CHP. All that is required is that you are a resident.jasonallen127 wrote:jrswanson1 might be referring to the fact that both your primary and secondary IDs for buying a firearm and applying for a concealed carry permit must have your current address, matching address, and be at least 30 days from the date of issue.ProShooter wrote:There is no 30 day wait in Va. If you move here, sign a rental agreement, buy a house, etc. and claim that as your residence, you do not need any ID that says you've lived there for 30 days. You just need to prove that you live there, and you are who you say that you are.

Are you out of your mind? I'm from MA and it's FAR from CA,NY,NJ or MD with their gun laws. I wouldn't exactly call it gun friendly but at least there all you have to do is not move to an anti town, get your permit and your pretty much good to go. Yes there's still an AWB but pre-bans and pins take care of 90% of that hassle.rromeo wrote:Sounds like a Masshole. A couple states make California appear gun friendly, and Massachusets is one.

OK... There's the MA trigger thing, but it's not illegal to "fix" it.
MOST Towns are shall issue by practice
Can still have pistol grips unlike CA
Can have high cap mags (ya ya pre ban)
No Wating periods (CA)
Open Carry is Legal (most don't)
FTF Sales Legal
Signs have no force of law
Has Castle Doctrine
and surprisingly more Gun shops and ranges than central VA!
Again, NOT saying MA has good gun laws, because they don't. But by FAR their the best of the anti states.
