Re: AR-15 build or buy complete?
You can get a much better price from Model One Sales on an upper, and a RRA lower. The Sales upper comes assembled. Use the money saved to buy a RRA drop in trigger job and a Ciener .22lr conversion unit, so that you can learn to hit swiftly, with spending a lot less on traveling to a centerfire ran...

The AK's safety lever sucks.
You have to leave it on "fire" or you have to give each of your enemies an "extra" 1 second in which to kill you, as you take your hand off of the firing grip, disengage that stupidly designed safety lever, and return your hand to the firing grip. Either you are a fool, or you ha...

Re: Why I have AR15's
If you want to take 1.5 seconds per shot, with a bolt action, vs 6 shots in the same time, same hits, as the AR-15, you are welcome to your ignorance. Shtf will sort you out, quickly enough. :-) If you want your 308 rifle and 200 rds, in mags, to weigh 25 lbs, along with the 35 lbs of other gear you...

Re: I love machineguns, but...
they are "bedsheet guns". This is a smithing expression for guns that you take apart or put together ONLY while "wearing" a bedsheet draped over you, with another sheet under you. that way, the parts cant fly very far, and they show up well against the white background.

Re: Neat Trick!
I only carry 2 spare mags for my AR, in my rear pants pocket. If you can't get the job done in 30 rds, ferchissakes, you'd better be using solid cover. If you have the cover, then 1 second "lost" in swapping mags is nothing. 30 rds is a lot of missing, and if you hit 5-6 of the enemy, you ...

skilled men shoot their own ejected .22lr casings
out of the air. this is done by holding the gun sideways, muzzle downwards to the front, so that the ejected cases go almost straight up. It takes quite a bit of practice, but the 3/8" (spinnning) target gets hit at 6-10 ft from the muzzle. Think about that. That means that in less than one sec...

Re: People's opinions on Mosin-Nagants
They were obsolete clunkers when they were brand new. Most have damaged bores, from being fired with corrosive primed ammo, then not cleaned properly, in WW2, ferchrissakes. If you can't afford a better rifle, how can you possibly afford enough ammo to get and stay skilled with it, hmm? An sks is ju...

223 Ar's OWN the 600 yd line at NRA matches.
They win all the matches, not just because of their advantages on the rapidfire stage, but due to many advantages at long range, too. Ever since Sierra copied the Berger 80 gr VLD match bthp, the 223 AR's have had it all their way. Nowadays, with a 26" barrel, a 90 gr VLD, 1 in 6.5" riflin...

a steel 30 rd AK mag weighs 3/4 lb. A steel 20 rd 308 mag weighs 7 ozs. An aluminum M16-AR mag weighs 1/4 lb. A steel 1911 mag weighs 2 ozs. 30-06 or 168 gr match 308 is 16 rds to the lb. 150 gr 308 is 18 rds to the lb. .30 AK or 230 gr .45 ammo are 22 rds to the lb. 9mm or 223 or .20 AK ammo is 40 ...

Re: SHTF - caliber and platform discussion
Nobody ever heard of Ciener or other maker's .22lr conversion units for the Mini-14, AK, AR-15 and several pistols? you don't have to settle for having just a .22lr, or just a centerfire. with a 20 second caliber swap, you can have both. the .22 unit weighs but 3/4 lb, costs about $150, there's no r...

Anyone who doesn't reload their own ammo isn't much of a shottist, much less a prepper.

Most of the world's population gets by without them, we can too. They are illegal in the Phillipines. A Catholic country, vibrators are illegal, too. The men in control don't want the women doing much of anything along those lines.

Re: How long will food last?
You need 1000 lbs of food per person, per year. So don't worry about it spoilling, worry about having enough of it instead, ok? have the abilty to generate bean, alphalfa and other sprouts, as well as regular gardening. Have snares, gill nets, and trotlines, and a year's supply of venison-jerky, dri...

Re: necessities for DIY gunsmithing in a pinch
The noise of each shot that you fire is likely to "call in" your killers, for up to 2 miles around you. Best think of that before you decide whether or not a sound suppressor is in your future, for shtf, as well as how much ammo you can benefit from caching. Very few people are going to su...

Re: necessities for DIY gunsmithing in a pinch
I don't worry about this at all. With the possible exception of airsoft, airguns and silenced .22's, nobody is going to be doing any practicing once shtf, so what's going to wear out the guns, hmm? If you are smart enough to have both a pistol and a rifle, you will be able to use one or the other to...
