223 Ar's OWN the 600 yd line at NRA matches.
They win all the matches, not just because of their advantages on the rapidfire stage, but due to many advantages at long range, too. Ever since Sierra copied the Berger 80 gr VLD match bthp, the 223 AR's have had it all their way. Nowadays, with a 26" barrel, a 90 gr VLD, 1 in 6.5" rifling twists, the 223 AR;'s are beating a lot of 308's at 1000 yd matches, even. A 24" 223, loaded with Hornady 75 gr softpoints, hits at 500 yds with the same power (500+ ft lbs) as a 4" 357 revolver does at 10 ft, and that softpoint still has enough velocity left out there to expand reliably in flesh, too, 1800+ fps. Don't kid yourself about a 223 being limited to under 300m, cause it aint so.
