Re: From the Times-Dispatch

Media General, the Times Dispatch's owner, has been gradually coming around to the view that it should reflect the various worldviews of its subscribers rather than ridicule them. The survival instinct tends to clarify things a bit. In pursuit of giving the people what hey want, the company is publi...

Re: $400K is not enough...whine whine...

The point Henderson is making is that people who earn enough to be in Obama's definition of wealthy do not necessarily have a large margin of disposable income. In most cases, the earned income of "wealthy" people is small relative to the income they derive from asset holdings. If you tax ...

If Pizza Hut pizza didn't already suck, I'd boycott the company for its firearms policy.

Re: Al-Qaeda plans Mumbai-style attacks on the U.S. -- SOON!

This is a pretty good article about how the Obama Administration has addressed Pakistani leadership on the terrorism issue: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/28/AR2010092805092.html?hpid=topnews It seems Obama has communicated to Pakistan that if there's a major strike ins...

Re: Al-Qaeda plans Mumbai-style attacks on the U.S. -- SOON!

Absolutely, the universities in almost every state. One halfwit emotional cripple with a .22 and a 9mm killed 32 smart young people at Virginia Tech a few years ago. The students were sitting ducks - they had no idea what was happening. The moral narcissism of the academic left compels them to recru...

Al-Qaeda plans Mumbai-style attacks on the U.S. -- SOON!

From http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/09/latest-jihadist-threat-tied-to-german-misunderstanders-of-islam-training-in-pakistan.html : Intelligence and law enforcement authorities in the US and Europe said the threat information is based on the interrogation of a suspected German terrorist allegedly cap...

Re: VCU Health System power grab

I'm not a lawyer, but its hard to look at these examples and consider anyone who is not a student, teacher or University employee to be a "member of the University community". I've read the law, too. It's a bit vague on who it affects, but VCU clearly has the power to decide who among tha...

Re: VCU Health System power grab

Way too late, son. That ship has left port. VCU has had a cutout in the Virginia code that permits them to ban firearms on campus already. The hospital is part of their empire. You cannot carry guns there now, and I am certain you will learn this if you OC and the wrong JBT Kampus Kop sees you. But...

Re: VCU Health System power grab

I think you missed the point of my post; my fault for not spelling it out. I'm very familiar with VCU's rules about guns on campus. The point of this story is that VCU - the VCU Health System, at least - is now treating public streets and sidewalks as part of its campus. As near as I know, VCU Polic...

VCU Health System power grab

In Richmond, VCU Health System has banned smoking on public sidewalks and streets in the vicinity of its campus. If you are smoking outdoors but near VCU Medical Center, you will be ticketed by VCU Police if caught. There's an article on this in Style Weekly: http://styleweekly.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?si...

His 300 guns could only possibly "pose a security threat to the neighborhood" if he also has 300 hands.

I wonder how the UA West Tower 10-plex theatre is doing? Between the Regal Cinemas at Short Pump and Movieland in the city, it must be hurting. It would make a great indoor range.

Jack Hanna defeats grizzly bear with pepper spray

If the weapon does not even prevent a baby grizzly bear from getting close, it should not be recommended to others, right? The Columbus Zoo keeper and frequent David Letterman guest said he was with his wife and other hikers in Montana's Glacier National Park on Saturday when a bear cub, weighing ab...

Harper's Magazine concealed carry article

The cover story of the August 2010 issue of Harper's Magazine is "Happiness is a Worn Gun: My Concealed Weapon and Me" by Dan Baum. It's actually very fair and straightforward - I was astonished to see the cover in Barnes & Noble the other day, and picked it up. I wrote up a review at ...

The bottom line is that preventing law abiding citizens from lawfully selling their property will not shrink the black market in gun sales to convicted felons and others prohibited by law from owning guns.

Congressman Bobby Scott Interview

Ryan Nobles of NBC12 interviewed Congressman Bobby Scott of Virginia's 3rd District recently, on the topic of the "gun show loophole". A sample of his scintillating rhetoric: Scott: Well, I think it's important that we have a matrix where people who are not able to buy firearms shouldn't b...
