Re: Gun show prices - I don't think so
Just saw this thread. I volunteered at the VCDL table on FRI and the place was a ghost town. From what I heard, the rest of the weekend was pretty much the same. I think everyone's tapped out on spending for guns and ammo after the run-up over the last couple years. I know I am... but that didn't st...

Re: AK47 Wood furniture refinishing
Thank you all. What grit sandpaper are you all using? Also, are any brand of stains better than others? Grit depends on whether you're using stripper to start. If not, you want something coarse as a starter, to strip the gunk without clogging the paper and smearing the sealer from friction. I would...

Re: AK47 Wood furniture refinishing
Unfortunately, It is not unfinished. How difficult is it to strip the current finish and to refinish it? Easy-peasy. If it has a lot of sealer, you might want to use a stripper first so that you can avoid sanding the hell out of it. Otherwise, just follow BertMacklin's advice. I've done several sto...

Re: Found a K98 but no numbers match
I gave up on finding a K98 with matching numbers in what I consider to be good condition. Most of the K98s have been overhauled and rebuilt so much that the only way to find anything that matches AND is in good shape without being "lottery lucky" is to go the true estate/collector route. F...

Re: NRA Pistol Instructor class?
FYI, I took all my instructor courses at the Arlington-Fairfax IWLA chapter. I'm a member there, but that's not a requirement for taking classes. The prices are great and the instructors are among the best in the country. Check out the website if you're interested.

Re: FFL Transfer Fee for Retail Unethical?
A little OT, but I've had nothing but good experience with Sterling Arsenal. I haven't bought anything there yet -- just browsing/questions and armorer work -- but they seem knowledgeable and have given me good prices on labor. FWIW, I agree that the bottom line is the "out the door" price...

Re: This is enough to make me start packing my bags.............
This is part of what I do for a living. The tools have been around and in use in various industries (e.g., financial services) since the 80s. It just took politicians -- especially at the state level -- longer to move away from older-style grassroots methods. As much as it pains me to say, the GOP h...

Need recommendations on a cheap single-action revolver?
I'm currently finishing the NRA Pistol Instructor cert and find myself in need of a single-action revolver (which, outside of the handling practical, I have never seen in person in my life) so that I can actually teach the course. Any recommendations on (1) make and model of a REALLY CHEAP but safe ...

Rand Paul's amendment to the Postal Reform Act
As many of you probably know, GOA sent out one of its mass mailings today which urged people to contact federal legislators in support of Rand Paul's amendment to S. 1486, to allow carry in post offices . As is almost always the case, I submitted comments, which included copies to our apparatchiks, ...

Just saw this. I'm in Centreville until the end of JUN (don't know about afterward) and would be up for a range visit/cheap eats with enough advance notice. I think the NRA range is probably the most accommodating place you're going to find, both in terms of restrictions and cost.

Re: They need to rename CheaperThanDirt.
Back in 2004, when I first started using CTD, they were great: good prices and flat-rate shipping on ammo. Now, they'd have to give me the stuff free to consider doing business with them. I haven't visited that site in a couple years, at least.

Re: The NSA Has Nearly Complete Access to Apple iPhones
I've never thought I was safe from the government, anywhere at any time. I guess that's why news like this doesn't surprise me. It's also why I usually use my real name when posting comments on news sites and the like. I figure that anyone of import who wants to ID and get me can pretty much do so a...

Re: Remington releasing a brand new pistol
Very nice looking gun. The price is what grabbed me. Between the $425 purchase on my LC9 and the extra $100 I've put into it trying to make the trigger serviceable, I could've had a nice striker-fired gun and holster by now.

91% isopropanol might work, I guess. My bro was a chem major, so I figured he picked the most effective alternative for the money.
