ISM Weapon Systems in Purcellville

There is a new gun shop in Purcellville: ISM Weapon Systems (ismws.com). Excellent selection of weapons and ammo, but even better -- a fantastic staff! I've been there several times and bought a new Walther PPQ there last week. Tim (the manager) and the rest of the folks there could not be nicer, fr...

Two new courses at FPF Training

I attend handgun training at Final Protective Fire (FPFTraining.com) as often as I can. Excellent courses by an outstanding instructor (John Murphy) in Culpeper. I received the below information from John today and wanted to share it. I hope that's permissible. ------------------------- I am hosting...

Re: good place to buy in northern virginia?

Loudoun Guns in Leesburg has a very good selection, but not very good prices. Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn has a reasonable selection and pretty good prices, plus you can shoot it before you buy it. Purcell Guns in Purcellville has a limited selection but good prices . . . but you have to deal with...

You picked an excellent "first" one. Just keep in mind it won't be your "last" one. You've been bitten by the bug now.

Re: Looking for a range suggestion near Washington, DC.

"Near" is relative. I know an excellent range about 50-75 miles west of DC in Rippon, WV. 340 Defense (http://www.340defense.com) has 25, 50, 100, and 400-yard ranges available 7 days/week. Come on out!

Re: New Marine Uniform

You put 2ndLts in charge of uniform policy and this is what you get. I'm expecting it to be complete with a head band or dew rag.

Re: Other than the NRA HQ, I heard that

I was hoping for a little more details on Blue Ridge. I have two newbies I need to take out for their first time shooting and would prefer it if they were not paying $1 a round for 9mm. Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn is a modern indoor range. They sell ammo over the counter. Last time I was there (a...

No, they have targets and target stands available.

They used to have steel plates and shooting trees, but no longer.

Re: Anyone seen any Kimbers around lately?

Loudoun Guns in Leesburg had quite a few Kimbers when I was in there just last week.

Re: 340 Defense. What's going on there?

Yes, they're open. Was out there last week. Same basic arrangement (25, 50, 100, and 400-yard ranges). Looks like everything has been cleaned up a bit. The down side is no more rentals and no more automatic weapons available. Also no more visitor walk-ins -- everyone must join and be a member.

Re: Experience/Reviews on Northern VA Tactical?

I took a defensive handgun class from them several years ago. They did a terrific job. Since then I've had problems finding classes and/or getting anything scheduled. Plus, the instructor who taught me left NVT. I have since switched my preferred instructor to John Murphy at FPF Training (www.fpftra...

Re: Carbine Classes

I second the recommendation for Pat Goodales Practical Firearms Training (www.pgpft.com). Another great trainer that teaches both pistol and carbines is John Murphy in Culpepper (www.fpftraining.com). You would do very well with either.

Re: The Perfect .45 ACP Carbine.

I have seen 9mm uppers for the AR platform. Haven't shot any, nor have I seen .45 uppers (wish I had). I have one of the Beretta CX4s in .45. Great shooter, but I agree that the small mags (8 rounds) are a nuisance.

Re: Anyone own a 300 AAC Blackout?

I bought a 300 Blackout upper for my existing AR. As others have said, it was a very simple matter of replacing the original .223 upper with the 300 Blackout upper. No need for new magazines or anything else. The reason I bought this was for deer hunting, as the .223 is not legal for deer hunting in...

Re: The Cove Campground - Gore, VA

Was up there last week. Lots of good progress being made to the range. They've plowed over the parking lot and both ranges, making improvements in everything (except the "road" leading to the range). They plan on positioning fixed steel targets and range lanes in the mid-term. Many positiv...

VA Outdoor Shoot?

340 Defense, north of Berryville, is closed until January (at least). The range at the Cove Campground (Gore, VA) is closed (at least today, and it seems to be sporadic). Where are we to go for the short term for sighting in our rifles?
