Re: Golden and Zimmerman at Nations Gun Show

I've bought a couple of guns from them and have always found them to be pleasant to deal with. Sometimes they're a little higher than Jerry, but generally in the ballpark.

Re: Glasses and Shooting

I have progressives, but I'd have to tilt my head back to see the sight picture through the correction. I just put up with the fuzzy front sight.

Re: Gun Show observations

I made it over to the show on Sunday afternoon in lieu of letting the 'Skins raise my blood pressure. The front lot was full and there were plenty of folks inside, but it wasn't crammed like the last couple of shows at Chantilly. Lots more black rifles to look at, but prices still seem pretty high. ...

Re: Buying a .40 cal Pistol - Almost

You might thank that guy if he spared you buying a Sigma. I'm not familiar with the Taurus, but they don't have the best rep for dependability. Might look at a M&P or an XD or XDm if the Glock doesn't feel right.

Hatfield's Gunsmithin' in Manassas

It's always hard to find a good gunsmith in NoVA. Garrett in Newington is good, but very pricey and long lead times. Anyway on a recommendation from a coworker I took my XDm to Sam (Hatfield?) to put on a fiber optic front sight and extended mag release. He did a good job, the price was reasonable (...

Re: Range 82, Midland VA

Wow, that's not too far from my house. Be nice to have a 100 yard range. As I read it, my (shooting buddy) wife and I would each have to join and each have to have a separate lane (@ $32/hr.). Not to be cheap about it, but that could add up. However since the membership is minimal, it might be worth...

Re: .45 Cocked and Locked!

I'm used to carrying a DA/SA gun with one in the chamber, decocked. Got a Sig 229 and H&K USPc. When I started carrying my Kimber in condition 1, I admit it did take a little getting used to. Now I don't give it a thought.

Re: How Much Ammo?

Seeing as how I'm now "rolling my own", I could have quite a bit on hand. But let's face it, any of us would be considered by the media to be in possession of an "arsenal."

Re: A Place To Tell Jokes

A young man moved from his parents home into a new apartment of his own and went to the lobby to put his name on his mailbox. While there, an attractive young lady came out of the apartment next to the mailboxes, wearing a robe. The boy smiled at the young woman and she started a conversation with h...

Fredericksburg Rod and Gun has USPSA matches the first Sunday of every month. NRA has IDPA on Tuesday evenings.

Re: Lawfully Possess Weapon in Hotel Room?

Does the hotel have a safe in the room? Otherwise what will you do with the gun when you're out of the room? In Va you can't legally put a gun in your car's console when you're driving. A gun is supposed to be out in plain sight. I'd check on whether there's a safe in the room.

Re: Guns & Ammo Warehouse, Manassas VA

I've had positive experiences with G&AW. I took an NRA course on metallic reloading there. They're really helpful when you get to know them better, but like a lot of gun stores some of the folks can come across initially as being a little contemptuous of your knowledge and opinions. They also ca...

Re: NRA range, Fairfax Virginia

go at night, you'll never have to wait. they're open until 10pm on weekdays (closed to the public on tuesdays) and if you get there at say 730, you can walk right onto a lane and stay there until they close if you want, without paying any extra. if there's no one in line waiting to take your place,...

Re: dawson's in Woodbridge

Dawson's is ok in my book. It almost seems like it depends on the mood of the staff? or maybe you just need to be a regular. Most of the time ive been in there the staff didnt really seem interested in what i was looking for That was pretty much my experience also. They're very pricey on handguns, ...

Re: Chronograph Add-ons?

I'm new to reloading and don't have a chrono yet. Don't you have to have it about 10' downrange? I don't think that would work at the NRA would it? I'd love to find out I'm wrong.

Re: Springfield XD Trigger

With 20/20 hindsight, I'd say you might have had the Custom Shop do a trigger job since SA was picking up the shipping anyway. I've heard it improves the XDm quite a bit.
