Re: Tell Me About Virginia's Eastern Shore
I definitely feel for those firemen, they come flying past here several times a week now in the evenings. The police presence here has been noticeably stepped up as well. As far as the ES, there really isn't much out here honestly. Its nice and quiet for the most part, though you definitely have tow...

Re: "Assault Weapons Ban" has been introduced..
And I couldn't help but laugh at this quote. "How are you going to hunting with something like that?" asked Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, pointing to the assault weapons displayed to his left. "You kill something, there's nothing left to eat." So, that .223 or...

Re: SGK Gun Shows - Hampton - January 19-20, 2013
It was amazing...I was surrounded by thousands of people and thousands of guns, people even carrying them *gasp*! And you know what? Not a single one went off and I witnessed no bloodbath as crazy as it might seem... It was jam packed though, they even opened up 30 minutes early just to get the line...

Re: New to reloading...
I have to second what jdonovan wrote, all good suggestions (and the route I went a year and a half ago) I would suggest going with the Lee *Classic* 4 Hole turret press. You can use it as a single stage and then move to a turret when you want. Get the classic though, it is rock solid. The other one ...

Re: Reloading - Humidity
Good suggestion on the ammo boxes and desiccant. My plan is to eventually build a wooden wall cabinet to put the stuff in with a box of the desiccant that I can rotate out with a fresh one. Ammo cans will probably be the best solution until I can get the wood together for the cabinet though. I was l...

Re: Reloading - Humidity
CowboyT, I had some things start to show a few small pin head dots of rust, which prompted the purchase of the dehumidifier. I placed most everything in sealed ziplock bags and keep the powder/primers in a proper box upstairs, but I would rather keep it all in one area now. I made sure to keep the a...

Reloading - Humidity
I recently set aside a section of our basement to turn into a little reloading room and I am a bit concerned about humidity. The basement isn't finished and under normal circumstances the air is a bit damp, but generally no water or anything of that sort is seeping through the walls or floor. I plac...

Re: SGK Gun Shows - Hampton, VA - November 24-25, 2012
Do those shows carry reloading components? Just curious if its worth getting it there vs. ordering online and incurring the ~$30 hazmat+S&H? Also, how are the prices on parts (AR15) and magazines in general? I plan on at least making a list of prices online just to compare, but I was curious as ...

Re: Reloading help needed.
I would suggest getting to reloading manuals first, they will give you a broad range of powder measurements for various rounds out there. Definitely get at least one of the main ones out there, but more often then not, you will run into a combo (either powder or bullet grain) that isn't covered in o...

Re: Carrying a recorder
You leave it running all day? I didn't realize recorders had that kind of battery power and memory these days. Do they? This got me curious too and in just a quick search, the first one I found can do up to 22 days (or 2.7 days of highest quality) and also had 15 hours of battery life, and it wasn'...

Re: Reloading - .223/5.56
In general I'm getting the haz-mat supplies from the gun shows. Or once I've got a load worked up I like, and know I'm going to use a bunch of power, then I'll buy 2-3 8lb kegs.... at that point the haz-mat isn't too much of a per pound cost. I would love to, but it wouldn't be a cost savings for m...

Re: Strange incident at home today
I used to have religious groups knock on my door. That's all stopped since I answered the door wearing a bloody apron, a hacksaw, a .45 strapped to my waist, and a mallet in the apron pocket. :hysterical: I can just imagine hearing: "...why hello, please do come in, I have been expecting you.&...

Re: Reloading - .223/5.56
why do you say neck sizing only for a bolt gun? Would you not neck size only for an AR? Generally the feeding tolerances on a self-loader cause non-full length sizes cases to not feed as reliably. How reliably will they or won't they feed? You have to experiment to know. For a range toy, or practic...

Re: Ruger SR-22 Pistol
What did that run you and where did you get it? My wife wants one. Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore is where I picked up ours. They have them for $289 + sh, which was ~$10 or so I believe. The pistol is really nice and seems very reliable and accurate. Definitely a lot of fun to shoot and easy to take...

Re: Reloading - .223/5.56
For my 5.56 loading I like the ball powder for the general use range ammo. Ramshot Tac, H332, H335 have been my most commonly used powders. I'm mostly loading 55/62 to duplicate the common military loading. I'm not working in a bolt gun, and am not striving for maximum accuracy. You'll need a die s...

Thank you for the awesome post, that gave me a lot to go on, I really appreciate that. Primer pockets - you said you have the Lee reamer. Do you mean the primer pocket cleaner, or do you mean the chamfer tool? You are right on this, I was thinking the cleaner, I will pickup one of the chamfer/deburr...

Reloading - .223/5.56
First I wanted to thank everyone for all the advice given about a year ago when I first got into reloading. I have been doing it now for around a year for my 9mm and have had a lot of fun and good success with it. Now I wanted to try my hand at .223, but this is a whole new beast, so I figured I wou...

Re: .22 Pistol Recommendations
What I look for in a .22 pistol is the ruggedness to shoot many thousands of rounds and an ability to reliably function with cheap bulk ammo. This was the biggest deciding factor for me as well. The Ruger SR22P seemed to do great with the bulk ammo and worked with pretty much everything else as wel...
