Tell Me About Virginia's Eastern Shore

Post by Greybeard »

We're selling our Reedville house and beginning to look at Virginia's Eastern Shore to move to. What's good and what's bad and where to stay away from?

I've done some work out on the Eastern Shore. I'd be inclined to avoid anything near Maryland, and anything on the peninsula.

My sister lives in Reedville, as does some of my GFs family. I much prefer the Reedville area.

Forgive me for jacking the thread, Greybeard...

The RTD reported the State Police have spent over 18000 hours on this(these) case(s).
It would seem like some strategically placed game cams could prove beneficial to solving these shenanigans.
Now is the time for all good men to get off their rusty dustys...

I definitely feel for those firemen, they come flying past here several times a week now in the evenings. The police presence here has been noticeably stepped up as well.

As far as the ES, there really isn't much out here honestly. Its nice and quiet for the most part, though you definitely have towns to avoid...well I would avoid North Hampton County all together unless you plan on getting a nice size plot of land, then it might be worth it. Or if you plan on traveling to Va. Beach a lot.

Accomack County isn't bad, they get more funding for the tech sector up near Wallops Island and Chincoteague's tourism dollars. Its also about an hour away from Va. Beach and Salisbury/Ocean City, MD. Its also a good place to be if you enjoy saltwater fishing and the beach.

No traffic except on Friday/Sunday afternoons as people migrate through during the summer. Onnancock and Onley are nice towns and there are at least shopping centers/Wal-Mart and restaurants there. Parksley isn't bad either. You also have the towns further north, though they are a bit too close to MD for comfort, such as Chincoteague. Captains Cove is nice too, but the homes are still over priced there, though not as bad as they were.

Over all though there is a whole lot of nothing..horrendously flat land with lots of churches, fields and a dwindling amount of abandoned structures. However, there is a gun club, NOAAWIVA, a good group of people who enjoy shooting. They hold IDPA events and long rifle matches there, as well as a few other things and do 4H events too. If you can get to the range during the day, you'll pretty much have it to yourself most of the time.

Did you have a particular area you were looking at over here? Or a particular aspect that was drawing you this way?

Hey Coastie... if you're in the mid/late 30's age range, you probably went to school with my GF. She, also, is from Heathsville.

Haha SHMIV I'm a ways away from there, I'm only now in my mid 20's, but I do know just about every family that may have gone to school there one way or there other. My moms father used to own a grocery store in the area so we know a lot of families through that. I'm assuming she went to Northumberland schools though?

I would assume so. Whatever the school system in that area is. Considering your age, I suppose that it's likely that she babysat you or drove your school bus, lol. Small towns being what they are, I reckon y'all have met once or thrice, at least.
