Do the members of Congress really think this will limit the actions of people with "real" intent to cause harm or even to criminals? When was the last time you saw a Criminal [Known Felon] go to a legitimate gun dealer asking for a gun?

Most side streets in any city in Amerika will have kid will selling a gun to anyone for a price - - an not to high a price either. I seen silenced guns for sale - - would not go near them myself....but they are out there and this BAN will not stop that type of trafficing.

On December 14, 2012, 20 innocent children and six adults lost their lives in one of the worst, most tragic shootings to ever occur in the United States. As a parent of three daughters, this was the ultimate nightmare. Like the Virginia Tech and Columbine shootings, this tragedy unfolded in what was once regarded as a safe haven free of crime and violence: a school.



I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. I own firearms and I have an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association. However, I also recognize that, like with many of our constitutional rights, our Second Amendment rights are not without limits. It is unfortunate that a tragedy of this magnitude is what is needed to prompt action, but we need to have a serious discussion on how to best avoid these kinds of mass shootings in the future. The status quo is not acceptable.



I believe our discussion should cover many issues. We can start by improving the existing criminal background check system. Currently, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is woefully incomplete, with many states failing to submit available records on persons who may be disqualified from purchasing or possessing firearms. With a more complete background check system, we can keep firearms out of the hands of those who have been deemed unfit to possess them.



In addition, we can take common sense measures such as passing the CAMPUS Safety Act (S. 3682), which I introduced last year. That bill would establish a national center for campus public safety within the Department of Justice to serve as a resource center and assist schools and universities in developing campus safety plans and threat assessment tools. We also need to look at changes to our mental health system so we can provide help to those with dangerous mental illnesses before it is too late. There will not be a single solution, but all of these issues and others need to be part of the conversation and I urge you to continue to express your views as we move forward.

They can't be serious........At least in my part of Virginia it is illegal to deer hunt with a .223/5.56. Not because its so frigging huge it will disintegrate a deer, but because its considered TOO SMALL!! (deer round must be 0.23 caliber or higher)

I have exchanged e-mails with Scott Rigell, my congressman. I'm confident it is not an aid I'm conversing with as I know Scott. He is not planning to restrict our rights and is going to give a "no" vote on this. I also know an aid to a senator who says this will not pass the senate or congress. Of course, we have a long 4 years ahead of us.

Join a pro-gun group, your money works. Contact your congressman and senators, they need to be flooded with phone calls and e-mail. And be polite when debating the sheeple who are following this insanity out of emotion, make friends of them don't give them "ammo" to use against us.

Check out the banned list, this could be the end of Bushmaster as we know it.

My prediction is that you are going to see universal background checks and possibly the end of any new high cap magazines. However, the actual assault weapons ban won't fly, at least not in that written form. If it does it will look more like the 1994 version with the 2 part limit instead of one. If anything does fly it will be with a sunset or wear out date which is not included in the present form. However I think the universal background checks will be permanent.

I would hope that every single impacted manufacturer on the list has done the following before the sun set today:
A. Contacted their local, state and federal elected reps regarding the impact of shutdown would cost in direct and indirect jobs and tax revenues.
B. Pulled all their employees in and contacted their suppliers and up front advised each to personally contact their local, state and federal reps with this same message,
C. For those involved in gubmint sales, advise their reps that due to financial risk of ruin, the cost of future sales would be reconsidered. The history of American firearms makers are littered with bankruptcies from those that served only gubmint contracts.
D. Strongly consider coming Dow to Virginia to set up shop...we would love them here in the 1st District.
E. For those in NY, advise the guvvie that they are closing shop pronto and moving their jobs to Va!

"More people out there get shot with a Glock that has cartridges in a [high-capacity magazines]," said Biden, chair of a White House task force to develop violence prevention proposals, during an online Google+ chat.

"I'm much less concerned, quite frankly, with what you'd call an 'assault weapon' than I am with magazines, and the number of rounds that can be held in a magazine." A Glock is a type of semi-automatic pistol.

That comment from Ramsey made my head hurt. This is a Police Commissioner too, which is utterly frightening. So he is saying that because the bullet is fired from an AR or AK platform, it will do more damage, but if I fire it from a bolt action, it does less? Or if he meant the .223/5.56 bullet, does he not realize that more common hunting rounds have much more of an impact? And like stated above, .223 is too small to hunt deer with in Va. due to the greater chance of maiming and not killing. It is scary that that idiots like that are in is in his position of authority.
