1. Happy Birthday VGOF!

We're officially one year old now and it's been quite an eventful year! I started VGOF last year when I was preparing to get my Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit. I was having trouble finding information online about the process. I also couldn't really find anyplace where I could ask questions and get answers, specifically regarding what I can and can't do - what does a CHP gain me? How do I follow the letter of the law and keep from having legal problems? What are the requirements for Open Carry?

So, I decided since no such place existed - I would create it! So, here we are, one year later. Almost 36,000 posts and with over 1200 members - we are the largest "Virginia Only" gun forum on the web!

I hope that we continue to grow and that we can continue to meet and greet, shoot and greet and otherwise have a good time with like-minded Virginians.

2. SB334 Repeal of Restaurant Ban Passed the House (Reported by VCDL)

SB 334, Senator Hanger's restaurant ban repeal has PASSED the House UNCHANGED by 72 to 27! (Delegate Morrissey wasted everyone's time on the floor asking inane questions about the bill until they got fed up).

The bill will now need to be signed by the Speaker of the House and the Lt. Governor and then they will head to Governor McDonnell's desk for signing. That could take up to a week or so.

This bill will allow Concealed Carry in ABC establishments if signed into law.

5. Online Firearms Safety Course

This course is $39.99 and takes approximately one hour to complete.
There's a 20 question test at the end and you have to get 75% correct to pass the course. Once completed, you can print out your certificate and use it as "Demonstrated Competence" to apply for your Concealed Handgun Permit.

I would suggest (as would many others) that if you are not familiar with firearms, it would be a good idea to get some live training in addition to the online course. This can be anything from a live training course to coming out to a shoot and greet with our forum members. We're always happy to help new folks get accustomed to firearm use.

I stand corrected. A recipient of the newsletter pointed out that VaGunTrader is bigger than VGOF with over 3,000 members. We have some work to do! I would like to be able to say that we are the largest - ASAP!

I would point out that vaguntrader focuses almost solely on gun trading/selling. They dont do alot of discussion on other stuff like laws, reloading, politics, etc.

From that perspective VGOF is the largest and the only one.
