And the Next Potential GOP Presidential Candidate Is...

Post by ShotgunBlast »

South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham on Thursday formed a political organization to explore a potential run for his party's presidential nomination, the latest high-profile politician to test the 2016 waters.

...

"A center-right candidacy can prevail in America," he said.

Graham joins a list of more than a 15 Republicans who are thinking about running for president, a group that includes Romney and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

And do you know why he believes he has a shot? Because in the end, no matter how much you hold your nose you'll pull the lever for him. You pulled the lever in 2008 and then again in 2012 and you sent the unintended message that you want more candidates like that. So in 2016 that's exactly what you're getting. All he has to do is raise enough cash and ride out the primaries.

Do I hear a Lindsey Graham / Newt Gingrich ticket? I can barely contain my excitement.

Not true about the guaranteed base vote. Romney lost because enough conservatives weren't willing to hold their nose and they stayed home. Grahamnesty doesn't have a chance.

I don't want a center-right candidate. Those look too much like center-left. I don't want candidates that want to "reach across the aisle", unless they are reaching over there for the purpose of laying down a firm backhand upon Franken, Boxer, Pelosi, or the like.

I want a candidate that has a firm grasp upon the Constitutional limitations of government, and understands why those limitations were put into place.

I want a candidate that will call things as they are, and that won't backtrack and apologize for his comments when the empty wagons start whining about their hurt feelings.

I want a candidate that has a real job, that has had a provably productive life.

I want the bigger field, I want all kinds of ideas to be out there. There isn't a single person in any party that is going to hold the same values I have. The more "moderates" out there, the smaller the slice of pie each one gets. It allows some of the message from the more conservative and libertarian parts of the party to be heard. I want to hear more from folks like Rand Paul and Dr. Carson. I want to hear more people try to sell me on changing my positions versus beating me up for holding old, dull, outdated and racist, sexist, blah, blah, blah position...

The way I look at it, sometimes the politicians get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. Sometimes the Generals and Admirals get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I get it wrong. The way I look at it I want to hear them offer candid thoughts on the following things:
  • 1. The role of the Federal Government versus the Constitution, in particular the alphabet agencies' role in policy making and enforcement
    2. U.S. role in international relations
    3. National Defense policy
    4. Immigration policy
    5. The roles and limitations of the 3 branches of government
    6. The Federal Government's role in interstate and international business
    7. Federal tax policies
    8. Federal policies on education, medical care/ health insurance, marriage and abortion; what is or isn't the government's business
I am a realist. I will never get a candidate who represents 100% of my values, I really would prefer to have one that is more like 80-90% than 50%, but given the choice between a 60% and a 30% candidate, sitting the election out or voting for the candidate who will get five percent of vote if the wind blows right, I will take the 60% candidate.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

Do you all not understand that the change in demographic and the current state of the Electoral College, a far Right candidate does not stand a chance, so good luck with that.

I believe Trey Gowdy would be a better Attorney General or Supreme Court Justice.
But you are right, he needs to be in the mix.
