I want the bigger field, I want all kinds of ideas to be out there. There isn't a single person in any party that is going to hold the same values I have. The more "moderates" out there, the smaller the slice of pie each one gets. It allows some of the message from the more conservative and libertarian parts of the party to be heard. I want to hear more from folks like Rand Paul and Dr. Carson. I want to hear more people try to sell me on changing my positions versus beating me up for holding old, dull, outdated and racist, sexist, blah, blah, blah position...
The way I look at it, sometimes the politicians get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. Sometimes the Generals and Admirals get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I get it wrong. The way I look at it I want to hear them offer candid thoughts on the following things:
- 1. The role of the Federal Government versus the Constitution, in particular the alphabet agencies' role in policy making and enforcement
2. U.S. role in international relations
3. National Defense policy
4. Immigration policy
5. The roles and limitations of the 3 branches of government
6. The Federal Government's role in interstate and international business
7. Federal tax policies
8. Federal policies on education, medical care/ health insurance, marriage and abortion; what is or isn't the government's business
I am a realist. I will never get a candidate who represents 100% of my values, I really would prefer to have one that is more like 80-90% than 50%, but given the choice between a 60% and a 30% candidate, sitting the election out or voting for the candidate who will get five percent of vote if the wind blows right, I will take the 60% candidate.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?
