Re: best rimfire for under $150
A used Ruger 10/22 is your best bet for only $150. Save up until you have another $50 to spend and score a new one. Keep an eye on Dick's Sporting Goods, if you have one close by.
You could score one online, but then you'll have to pay shipping and transfer fees.
Take a look at the VGOF event calendar and see if there is a gun show coming to your town. You might find a bargain.

The Beav is thrifty!
I like that.
I bought a used 10/22 over 20years ago, it had had over 30K rounds put through it.
I've put at least that many through it since, she's a champ.

10/22 is a good little shooter. I think anyone who owns guns should have one. They're very "upgradeable" too - a lot of aftermarket parts available for them.

Re: best rimfire for under $150
Ive hade the Ruger 10/22 on my mind for the past month and have the money to purchase a new one but, the only reason that i dont want one is becase the action does not lock after the final round. I know that mods do exist that would eliminate this problem. That can easily be looked over becasue there are a TON of aftermarket items.OakRidgeStars wrote:A used Ruger 10/22 is your best bet for only $150. Where in VA are you? The Nation's Gun Show at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA is always worth a day trip, IMO.

I modded my 10/22 to lock open after the last round. It was really very easy.PulsatingBeaver wrote:Ive hade the Ruger 10/22 on my mind for the past month and have the money to purchase a new one but, the only reason that i dont want one is becase the action does not lock after the final round. If you just want to shoot and not add hundreds of farkles to it, look at Marlin 60s. It's a great shooting rifle. They're easy to find used for $100, and sometimes less.
The aftermarket is limited though.

Standard purchasing procedures apply, I believe. So you'd need two forms of ID and they will do a State Police check. I've never bought one at the show before so I'm not sure if it is any faster or longer than in a standard store setting.
As for what to expect... it will be pretty crowded. The Expo center is a large space so there is going to be a ton of stuff to look at!

Re: best rimfire for under $150
I had a buddy get a Remington 597 and had nothing but problems with it(still going to see if Remington will fix it). Also a relative had a Savage .22(can't remember the name) and has had jamming problems but I haven't looked at it and might be able to iron it out. I have never shot a marlin 60 so I can't comment on them. I have 10/22 and love it has ran flawlessly for more than 5000 or 6000 rounds. I love it and wouldn't change my choice on bit. BTW the 10/22s I see around here go for around $230-$260.

+1! I've shot both the 10/22 and the Marlin 60, and found the 60 to be more accurate (although both were rentals and the range management wouldn't allow me to adjust the sights on the 10/22). I'd still love to have either one, or better yet, BOTH!rromeo wrote:If you just want to shoot and not add hundreds of farkles to it, look at Marlin 60s. It's a great shooting rifle. I have to agree with rromeo the model 60s or it's brother the 795 (detachable magazine fed instead of tubular magazine) can be found for the kind of money you are talking. Dick's usually has a good price on them. Walmart has them a lot of the time too.rromeo wrote:If you just want to shoot and not add hundreds of farkles to it, look at Marlin 60s. You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

if anyone in nova around springfield knows of a walmart that has guns let me know! hahah
Re: best rimfire for under $150
The closest Wal-Mart I'm aware of near Springfield that sells guns is in Warrenton, though I haven't checked out the ones near Fredericksburg. All of the Dicks in Nova sell firearms.PulsatingBeaver wrote: if anyone in nova around springfield knows of a walmart that has guns let me know! hahah
You also might want to check out the Dale City gun show, which happens a week after the Nation's Gun Show http://olddominionshows.com/. It is smaller and less crowded, so there may be some better deals.
