It was U.S. Airways flight 808

For those that bet otherwise, I'll be waiting in the lobby to collect my winnings. Look for the white carnation.

This picture does point out the spiraling. Often, missiles do that when launching in case things go crazy it will only have a limited range. Not to mention that it steep angle for a contrail, is it not? I live near an airport and never see contrails near that thick but it's a smaller airport. That said I would expect to see more flash than that. Contrails Science Overflow has a nice write up. Basically they say that the vertical look it caused by an odd angle. It's explained in great mathematical detail that I don't have the time to go into, on their site. Many experts say it isn't rocket like. More importantly it's slow and there is no staging.

BTW it was seen again here. The next day.

Well, all I can say is that a small group of us at the Pentagon have been instructed to deny the existence of this experimental weapon, the alleged launch, and California for that matter...

Apparently some experts believe it may be a missile from a Chinese sub.
Although the U.S. Defense Department and North American Aerospace Defense Command have speculated publicly that the unidentified contrail of a projectile soaring into the skies off the California coast – and recorded by a KCBS television crew – came from a jet and posed no security threat to the U.S., several experts are raising provocative and disturbing questions about the government's official response, reports Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

Two governmental military experts with extensive experience working with missiles and computer security systems have examined the television video and conclude the mysterious contrail originating some 30 miles off the coast near Los Angeles did not come from a jet – but rather, they say the exhaust and the billowing plume emanated from a single source nozzle of a missile, probably made in China.

They further suggest the missile was fired from a submerged Chinese nuclear submarine off America's coast, and point out that the timing of the alleged Chinese missile shot coincided with an increasing confrontation between the U.S. and China, and was likely meant to send a message to Washington.

Indeed, the Federal Aviation Administration documents that there were no aircraft flying in the area at that time, the night of Nov. 8.

Why should this be a problem, we sold ourselves to China in the name of cheap stuff anyway - nope, no big deal, not threatened...

Ok, everyone who believes that our government would own up to to a Chinese missile launch from a sub so close to our coast please raise your hand...those of you who did please send me a $100 bill with a SASE and I will return a certified deed to the moon...

I'm not saying I agree that it was but if it was we will never know the truth...and our government would most likely only admit it several decades from now is some obscure release of declassified documents...

The interesting thing about conspiracy theories is not the theory itself, but rather how widespread they are clearly illustrates how little American's trust their government.

Indeed, but the point I was trying to make is how little our government trusts us...
