Hurricane Earl - Inbound

Virginia Officials Want Hurricane Earl on Residents' Radars

RICHMOND, Va. - State emergency officials on Monday urged residents along the coast to prepare for Hurricane Earl, which is expected to remain a strong storm as it approaches Virginia later this week.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Earl, a Category 4 storm that formed Sunday, was already a major hurricane with sustained winds of 120 mph. Officials said it is expected to be a Category 3 or 4 storm when it nears Virginia on Thursday or Friday.

Incase the worst happens, have the following items on hand:
Bottled Water
Non-perishable foods
First Aid Kit
Rain Gear
Cooking Supplies (ie grill, paper plates, etc.)
Generator
Extra Gas
Tarps, plywood, nails, etc. for repair jobs.

Hope everyone stays safe, and Earl is a non-event.

It should pass by us without too much hoopla. In any case, it's always good to be prepared. Almost time to bring in the pets and the elderly

Don't forget the defensive carbine. I doubt it does much.

Put some plastic on some analysis systems at work, but then the roof over them leaks with any good rain, hurricane not required. Normally the drops miss all the important stuff, but just in case it changes its drip point, I am ready.

Just got back from Wally World. Not too bad when we walked in, but the crowds were moving in by the time we left. In 24 hours, the H/C party will be in full swing.

While most people are trying to evacuate I'm leaving for either Nags Head or Wilmington tomorrow evening. We'll get there before Earl so we can be ready to help restore power after it blows through. Ever stood outside in the middle of a huricane drinking beer ? It's not the brightest thing to do.

Obama doesn't want to be late in handling this hurricane, so he has just declared the entire east coast a disaster area, and during the state of emergency, all guns will be picked up by the police.

I rode down to Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills for the first time since moving here. I really liked it down there, it would be a shame to see it get torn up.
Coming from Florida, though, I'm a veteran of Hurricanes. I've been through Charley, Frances, Jean, Dennis, Wilma, and many Tropical Storms.

So I was joking in my post, but apparently not joking enough. The North Carolina governor has indeed declared a state of emergency.
