Here is my roundtable on television with the anti-gun bartender, Jack Lauterback, who works at Havana '59 and Cha-Cha's in Richmond. The link has video, a transcript, and a poll:

Kudos to Mr van Cleave for not resorting to a snarky ad hominem attack. I would have been very tempted to say, "Well, mixing drugs and driving is irresponsible, yet you brag about doing so on your blog. How do you respond to that real world example?"

I did like the last zinger: "Then you should get a permit to carry."

That is most of the problem and we have a name for it: psychological projection. It goes something like this:

Anti-gunner: I'm a bat-sh*t crazy, drug using, drunk driving, irresponsible moron who would go on a rampage if my coffee took more than 2 minutes to make...everyone else must be like me.

There is so much wrong with the law and people like this bartender's common sense (or lack of). It is lawful for someone to open carry and drink alcohol, but it is unlawful to drink and carry concealed. Can someone explain the reason for that? Next, it is lawful for off-duty police and prosecutors and judges to drink alcohol and carry concealed, but not a licensed private citizen. What special training do police, judges and prosecutors receive in handling firearms while impaired by alcohol? If they do not get such training, why is it safer for them to be allowed to do this and not anyone else? I think that whole thing is pretty ridiculous myself. It is also safer for me or someone else to lock a gun inside a car in a public parking lot while I go inside a restaurant and eat a meal, than it is for me to carry and secure that gun on my person, while I enter the restaurant? PVC should have asked this guy for statistics or numbers of incidents of shootings or armed assaults in the past related to people with legal conceal handgun permits inside of restaurants and bars!

  1. I don't think they had that kind of time and,
  2. Lauterback's head probably would have exploded.

That was great! I think he did really well and was prepared for the debate.

Except that his admitted drug habits would preclude him from owning a firearm.

The other side of the argument is that as an employee of the establishment he isn't required (18.2-308(B)(1) to possess a permit to carry concealed on-premises.

His was the same lefty-Brady "But it COULD HAPPEN, and that's what scares me" mentality that should make those people cower in the corner like the dog who gets beat, has his nose rubbed in s**t (A little AiC for you).

That's true! But what is an AiC?

Ah, one of my favorites (Main in the Box)...that last bit was good. Notice that they let Phil have the last word. I wonder if that was planned...
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

You think the bartender would be more concerned about those who OC since they can legally drink alcohol.

Thanks for taking this on Mr. van Cleave!
