VA-ALERT: Roundtable with local anti-gun bartender

Post by OakRidgeStars »

For those of us outside the Richmond viewing area, check out the Video section of NBC 12's website to see if they post the roundtable event.

http://www.nbc12.com/

* Updated: Air time is 4:15pm on July 14.

I am scheduled to be on a round table with an anti-gun bartender on NBC 12 News "First at 4" in Richmond around 4:15 PM next Wednesday.

This particular 26-year-old bartender named, Jack Lauterback, who writes a bi-weekly column in Style Weekly titled "Punch Drink," has been fuming over the new law that allows CHP holders to carry in restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages for on-premise consumption.

He posted a blog entry that really angered gun owners.

He has since redacted his original post, but I already had a copy. He continues to add posts that are just as bad, though.

I have xxxx'ed out the plethora of expletives he uses (and overuses). All I can find in any of his posts are a lot of personal attacks against gun owners and no "meat" as to why CHP holders shouldn't carry in a restaurant. It makes me think of a creme puff, which is mostly air:

Guns and Alcohol

The top story in today's Richmond Times Dispatch was titled 'Gun Owners Celebrate Law'.

The story described how a handful of gun owners met in bars across the state to salute the recent passage of a law that allows people with concealed-handgun permits to bring hidden firearms into restaurants that serve alcohol.

If the past two sentences didn't adequately describe how fxxxxx stupid some people are (including our Governor who signed the law), then I'll tell you how fxxxxx moronic these retards are in the following bullet points:

- 80 fxxxx stupid axxhxxxx met at O'Charleys Bar in Richmond today to celebrate the fact that they can bring a hidden gun into a bar. It's still illegal to drink when carrying a gun, but these fxxxxx complete wastes of life can still meet at a bar and drink Sprite with their guns. Fxxxx hooray!

- If these fxxxx piles of diarrhea need a gun for their protection while they scarf down their fried bxxxxsxxxx then they're a bunch of pussies. I say fried bxxxsxxx because they are no doubt redneck idiots who are extremely overweight.

- I'm honestly thinking about getting a concealed weapons permit with my spotless record and then going to these people's places of work and seeing how they feel about someone that they have never met, walking into their front door with a handgun. Finding these fat-loads will be easy because most of these idiots are the people fixing the power lines in front of my place or they're the ones constantly being late to fix my fxxxxx cable. Although more than a few will be tough to track down...Mostly because those few are poor and unemployed.

- Hide behind your 2nd amendment you uneducated axxhxxxx. When the Brits come back and try to re-colonize us, then you can tell me that I was wrong and that we need to bear arms. Until then...You're a fxxxxxx idiot.

- 'We all use safety when handling and discharging our weapons.'

- Yeah so did that NRA member before he caught his wife cheating and in a drunken rage blew her fxxxxxx head off.

- From the RTD: 'Phillip Bogenberger, a spokesman for the department (VABC), said a violation of the law is not an ABC violation. The responsibility to refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages rests with the permit holder'

- Of course Virginia's Alcoholic Beverage Control wouldn't touch this one. They're the ones raping the bars for our money. They don't actually have to deal with drunk patrons who may or may not be carrying firearms.

---------------------

Wow - look at all that profanity - Mr. Lauterback is a really impressive prose writer! ;-)

Anyway, he posted this recently:

Gun Debate Update

I've just been informed that a gun debate roundtable is tentatively scheduled for the NBC 12 'First At Four' feature next Wednesday, featuring yours truly. I'm not sure if they're going to find some gun nut for me to make look stupid, or if I have to find one, either way, it's going down.

Who wants to bring it live on TV in front of thousands of people??? I'm waiting...

---------------------

I've notified him via email that I'm the "gun nut" he's "going to make look stupid."

I'm looking forward to it.

---------------------

I DO NOT RECOMMEND visiting Mr. Lauterback's blog site, as the added hits of 14,000 gun owners looking at his tasteless rantings would give him unjustified credibility.

However, it is not my job to serve as a censor. But be warned: If profanity, references to illegal drug use, and sexually explicit material bothers you, don't visit his blog. Otherwise go there at your own risk (duct taping your head is suggested, though). He's clearly hoping to goad gun owners into responding in kind to his insults, threats, and bullying. ***Don't fall for it.***

Also, he's been rewriting what he has said earlier, trying to tone it down. Things come and go on his blog. He throws out an attack and then withdraws it like it never existed: for a little while he had an entry equating me to a hillbilly and saying that debating me would be a cakewalk. An hour later, POOF, it's gone.

Believe it or not, with all his backpedalling, his blog is actually tame compared to what it was just a few days ago:

This should be an interesting discussion. Big thanks to Philip for taking this on (and everything else that he takes on daily and weekly). I hope he's able to make Jack look foolish - as if Jack's blog doesn't do that already.

Here's a little ditty for the match: http://vgof.org/news.php?readmore=14

This will be ugly as all debates with mindless statists and libertards are. Victory will be assured as there is no power to pursuade within a position that is built on emotion, ignorance and expressed in the terms that this mouthbreather traffics in. The fact that it is going to be live makes me want to watch though!

I have noticed that most anti-gun people use the overweight redneck stereotypes in their rants. Isn't that profiling?
Does gaining or losing weight affect my rights?
Never initiate force against another. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.KYFHO

Not to sway the topic too far off-topic, but many posters on gun forums do perpetuate the stereotype of overweight, far-right, intolerant, white guy. Posting about "effing blacks|Asians|Latinos", saying "non-Christians" are not Americans, etc. etc. doesn't help the cause. That's why Philip will be refreshing - he's not the stereotype.

I'm not so sure. Probably go something like this...

VCDL: Guns save lives, stats, facts, other rational points.

Bar Tender: #$!!@#@%!# GUN...KILL#@!!$ !$%@#$@^^ I cry myself to sleep...

That is pretty funny, the part about pro-gun people being fat rednecks! Although I admit that I carry a few extra pounds around the waist area, I am a former law enforcement officer, and I am just a couple semesters short of earning my Masters degree in college!

I also have to admit, I have met a few very intelligent and extremely nice rednecks in my life! I have also met a few a$$h0l3 bartenders!

Cheers,

I'm not sure that Jack will be able to hold a conversation without resorting to profanity and personal attacks. If his language on the air is as colorful as in his blog, it will be a short discussion.

In any case, PVC will have no trouble making this guy look like the fool he is.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one.
From seeing some of this guy's comments I'd say he doesn't have a snowball's chance in the Sahara against PVC. Will there be a "slaughter rule" like in baseball? I hope not.

Given where and when it'll be happening, I wouldn't bet money on it lasting more than five minutes in any case. Local news is not the place for in-depth, meaningful discussion or debate of any topic, let alone one as detailed as gun control. Soundbite and counter-soundbite for a few minutes, cut to commercial.
In any case, PVC will have no trouble making this guy look like the fool he is.
The bartender will stammer some ludicrous falsities, Phil will debunk them, and it'll be over. Both sides will claim victory; bartender will probably try to spin it as a "moral" victory.

I don't live in RIC, is there anyway to see this on the web or something? I bet VCDL posts it.

Where does this douche bag work...?
I would like some clarification from this persons employer if they support his stance or not...

and he really sounds like he has an educated person, writing op-ed in a 2 bit paper (betchu its pro-bono) and tending bar...
20-something and knows it all...... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA...

give him his 15 mins, an let move on, shall we...??
Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.

Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

If he doesn't want people with guns coming into his place of employment, how about he nicely ask them to refrain from carrying there? It's not a government telling me what I can/can not do, so I'd gladly respect the wishes of the property/business owner.

It seems that pro-gunners are very respectful of personal property, rights...etc, and an alarming majority would do the same if asked politely.

Richmond Channel 12 broadcasts the 4:00PM news live on their website. Should be able to watch. I watched the ICE Director yesterday talking about AZ.
