One of my co-workers lives on top of a hill nearby. I attempted to get up it yesterday with the truck but eventually had to turn down a side road or I would have gotten stuck. So I called him to see how things were going. He said nobody has been in or out of their street since Saturday morning and that many an SUV has had to ditch on the way up. He said they have power and plenty of food and things are ok. But his parting comment to me was "I'm cleaning my gun just in case."

zephyp wrote:$45 to shovel a long driveway!!!!!!! They were asking minimum of $150 to do about 15 feet. I would have gladly paid $50 to let them shovel about 10 feet. It took me an hour by myself to do that today. I slammed my door on a couple more today. I'm willing to help them out but will not pay exorbitant rates for something I can do in about an hour. They need to go stand down by the local Home Depot and find an idiot for that...

Perhaps one of these hats would promote fair and friendly service:

Sweetpea, would you believe that my driveway is right at 1 full mile long and that without my tractor me and the wife would be stuck out in the boonies. But I have the tractor and a generator that runs the whole house along with 2 freezers full of deer meat from our wood's and fish from our lake. I think we are set.

Fox News finally gets us the NBC rationale for all this snow -- global warming. Wow. I'm glad somebody figured this out. I got almost 3 feet of global warming in my front yard and another God knows how much more on the way....

Yeah, but I'm starting to get cabin fever and I'm praying the snow will stop. I saw some of the guys up the hill shoveling snow from their roof and wished I had a ladder. The news caster kept repeating over and over -- another 5000 pounds of snow on top of the 25000 pounds already there for an average roof...

It started snowing about 5 PM yesterday here in Springfield and stopped around 8 PM. I was breathed a sigh of relief and checked the radar. Nothing. I woke up around 1 AM and still nothing. This morning the snow is falling very heavy and the wind is gusting to around 45 mph. Blizzard and whiteout conditions are prevalent across the area. The government is shut down for the 3rd straight day. I hear tree limbs fall during some of the higher gusts.

Friends, this is not due to global warming as the morons, twits, and bozos would have us believe. The temperature in Enterprise, AL this morning is 20 degrees with wind chill. It just doesnt get that cold down there.

I am convinced with all the so called natural disasters and record weather we are seeing that the judgments of God are almost upon us. Throw in political and other events here and around the world and it all adds up. I do not say this lightly or in jest. These are His signs and warnings that time draws near.

Even worse than that, BRA called me yesterday to tell me that today's IDPA match is cancelled. When I looked at my calendar to reschedule, it would appear that all the future matches fall on dates that I'm out of town on business. Grrr...

Not to mention all the earthquakes lately, like the 4.3 magnitude quake this morning in Chicago. It does make you wonder...

We only got a light dusting of global warming this morning, roads are in good shape and schools are open. But I'm on my second week of not working due to the the sloppy wet ground in NC. I'm so bored that my daughter left my 5 year old grandson with me yesterday so I'd have someone to play with. To top it off my wife tells him "Don't play rough with PaPa, he breaks easily'.

Call me crazy but I look at all this snow as a sure sign that it's winter. We may have had more snow than normal but it's just winter. It's been happening for longer than man or beast have roamed the Earth. I blame Virginia's proximity to the sun.

I'm going to go out on a limb and make a prediction that all snow will stop by summer. Anyone want to make a wager that I'm wrong?????

Ok, I'm going out on a limb (a strong one IMO) and going to predict that more bad stuff is going to happen quicker. Earthquake in Chicago? Earthquake a couple days ago in Korea (never happens there either)...hmmm...

The snow will indeed stop by summer but there are other calamities to be had and they will come...earthquakes dont care what season it is.

Honestly.. just don't fully understand it - it's WINTER folks, supposed to be snow and all the stuff that comes with it - happening this time of year. I'm in Fairfax, not far off from the Gov't Center - drove the JEEP out to the office (Reston) this AM and out and about to just survey roads etc; nothing really out there, no issues for me getting around either (never dropped into full 4x4 mode, just 'part-time' on some iced over areas).

Maybe it is SA in me; but I am noticing all the front-end loaders, bobcats, etc., "banking" snow against sidewalk areas - pretty darn high causing little to no visibility from streets - this is the time to really be cognizant of your surroundings, especially in your own neck of woods.

Snow Con's... my back is killing me from all the shoveling, more shoveling and probably even more tomorrowAM - Tylenol-3's are nice, ThermaPads are great... Booker's Bourbon = priceless.

Snow Pro's (or Con's if you are the "honey" in honey-to-do...) got some stuff around the house done for wifey; she's happy, I am sore, but the shelves do look nice (walk-in closet organizer).

Got to give the SIG a nice scrubbing/cleaning, man you gotta love the smell of Hoppe's #9.

Supposed to be more snow on Monday of next week...
