I was thinking the same thing after reading his second post on this thread. Or maybe he is just a decendant of Herr Goebbels(Reichsminister of Propaganda ).

You know DK, I feel like that's what bothers me most as well. A little bit of give goes a long way in a discussion like this, I'm willing to freely admit I'm no expert and most of us are here in this forum in the spirit of learning / garnering more knowledge anyway!
Yes, and compromise goes both ways. Each party has to give a little to make it work. Otherwise its draconian. Regarding compromising on political beliefs thats a little harder. Rather than letting someone share the sandbox with you in exchange to play with their tonka truck you have to give up something you truly believe in and are willing to fight for.

@wildbill - Actually I think Jim is merely one of those educated liberals who think it is their job to set everybody else straight. Regarding politics, I already did that to myself...

Governor, if I had foreseen the use those people designed to make of their victory, there would have been no surrender at Appomattox Courthouse; no sir, not by me. Had I foreseen these results of subjugation, I would have preferred to die at Appomattox with my brave men, my sword in my right hand."
Pay strict attention to that middle quote, if you will. It represents the great wisdom, patience and diplomatic perseverance that the South was willing to undertake in order to prevent all-out war.

We wanted to live in peace. The yankee nation (spec. Lincoln) would have none of it. One man. ONE MAN sent those troops to invade. His paranoia, immoral and secular, industrial drive; they brought the war upon the South and engulfed this land in a never-ending devolution into tyranny that would make King George, III cringe.

And that's all we want today. I believe that it is all any true CITIZEN wants. To be left well-enough alone. To be permitted to keep the fruits of his own labor to do as he sees fit. To amass his small fortune on this earth so that his sons and daughters may benefit it in their lives when he departs to go to his final reward... rather than being stripped of half its value by the rapacious and self-interested government.

They no longer acknowledge that all government derives its validity from the consent of the governed. They are about to invade our peaceful homes, destroy our property, and inaugurate a servile insurrection, murder our men and dishonor our women. We propose no invasion of the North, no attack on them, and only ask to be left alone.

WildBill:

Since your post says nothing, the page may as well be blank, ordinarily no reply is merited. However, If emotional and irrational posts do something positive for you, if they bring a smile to your day, and help with frustrations you may have, I'm in your corner. I think happy and satisfied people are better adjusted and more productive. Who can argue with that? If it means I take a personal hit, that's OK. My ego is perfectly capable of handling your ire. My reply would have ended here.

However after walking away and reflecting, I thought while the post itself was meaningless nonsense, and that's being polite, it conveyed an unwritten message worthy of discussion in the abstract. For example: Who is WildBill? The obvious answer is beats me, I don't know. All I know is what he writes here. Can I infer who he is from his posts. No I can't. My guess is he has only revealed the tip of the iceberg. If I knew all of the websites he frequents and read his posts there, and listened to his comments in a chat room I would know more. Is that enough information to make a definitive statement about WildBill the person? Nope. However, if the site was one of the thousands expressly devoted to a single issue and there was no restraint on what you could write or say, I could take WildBill at his word. But here? I don't know if his posts reveal all of his thoughts and his real beliefs. Why? Because there are some thoughts, ideas and beliefs that are abhorrent to most of us. There are political views that are completely unacceptable to all but the fringes of American society. Those who harbor such ideas, thoughts and beliefs don't openly reveal them unless they are in the company of like minds, or think they are.

Does WildBill harbor such thoughts, ideas, or beliefs? I don't think so, but I really don't know. Is he involved with one of those fringe elements? Does he frequent any of those single issue sites put up by fringe elements? And, if so, what does he say or write on those sites? Again I don't know. Think about it, do I know WildBill personally? Have I ever met him? If he lives in the same area who knows I might have. In short, the best I can do, provided I was even interested is to ask questions.

These imponderables are why I'm full of questions before I hazard a reply to most posts. It's why I try to get to specifics, because you can't have a worthwhile discussion around generalities. It's why i resist the urge to turn the discussion to the messenger (I don't always succeed). It's also why I resist the urge to post immediate replies. I have dozens of incomplete posts that were never sent. Why? Because they were all started based on a gut reaction.

I'm not advocating this for everyone, or that it's right. It's just me, and is a small opening into how I post. WildBill, however, is different he takes on the messenger. So equipped with the thinnest strands about me, WildBill with his well know brillliant reasoning ability', combined with an outstanding grasp of psychology, and social psychology, all topped with an unusual clairvoyant ability reached a definitive conclusion! Well done, bravo WildBill. Now you can sit back and wait for congratulations and a blistering reply from me in defense of who I am. But wait! Does your opinion of me matter? Nope, not at all! Do I want him to get off that kick? Nope, write more if you like! So sorry, no blistering reply.

The funny thing is by posting a message that is so devoid of content you beg the very question I repeatedly ask. Btw, do you have a problem with all lesbians? or only with those you define as "Butch"? Since Janet Napolitano is the Secretary of Homeland security are you implying that lesbians or "butch" lesbians are unable to run the Department? Or did you share that information for some other reason? Since a person's sexual orientation, no that's not right, the issue is homosexuality. For some of you it's a recurring theme in many posts. I wonder why? Just when I think WildBill is done, out of the blue he mentions Cass Sunstein. Once again you took a complex human being and reduced him to a single dimension. We now have a list of three on WildBill list, me, Napolitano, and Sunstein. That's enough to start my WildBill list. I'll see how many others he adds while wondering if he gets the point.

Respectfully, Jim

If I ever find the person who put the word "Homeland" into naming that Cabinet, the Department of Homeland Security I'm going to do what some of you do: i.e. who was the Nazi or commie who did that!

From CCFAN:
One way it was possible:

"The great thing about democracy is that it gives every voter a chance to do something stupid." - Art Spander.

Another way it might have been possible:

CCFAN: In the above part of a reply you used a You Tube clip to make a general point about President Obama's supporters. The lady in the clip said something stupid. Did she realize she said something stupid and took it back while the cam was running? Could we chalk it up to over exuberance? Or did the video poster give a damn about any of that? Instead, did he just want to portray Obama supporters as moron as a poster here stated. Of course, the answer is the latter. Do we know how much video was shot? Do we know if any other supporters made perfectly rational and reasoned statements? No we don't?

If we know none of the preceding, what do we know? Well, we know that the poster of this 26 sec vid clip has posted over 50 other clips. Every political clip is critical of, at the time, candidates Obama/Biden and supportive of McCain/Palin. None of his clips show any McCain/Palin supporters in a negative light. The unfavorable clips go so far as to make a comparison between Obama and Hitler and other odious historical characters. We can now ask CCFAN does he think a wholly partisan's vid is enough to make a general conclusion about Obama supporters?

What else do we know about the video poster? Since the election he has posted nothing in the political category. Can we say he's angry and unhappy with President Obama? If he is, he isn't angry enough to show it on You tube. Looking elsewhere we see that the poster is more interested in partying, women, and drinking in his free time than anything else. For you who need something about sexual orientation, he indicates he is a swinger. I'm sure that puts him in the mainstream of lifestyles on this forum (not). :hysterical: I'm positive that his friends are not all ideologues, and some obviously do not know or believe that he is. In fact, knowing what I know now I could not categorically say how he voted. From one I have read here he would not make the favored son list. My guess is he could easily make WildBill's list.

So, CCFAN for balance did you go to You Tube to find video clips of McCain/Palin supporters who could also be called stupid and morons, or worse? Not language I would choose but the language of some who support your views? How many, if there were any at all, did you review? Did you find any that could contribute to your uninformed voter case?

If you found one could you post it?

Respectfully: Jim

One more observation about gatlingun6, and then I plan to totally ignore him and his liberal rants and rambling. I would be willing to make a guess that he has brown eyes....they aren't for seeing....they are crap indicators....and it shows a FULL tank! Ya'all agree?

Ok well it seems to me, (don't you hate that?) I am not getting into the middle of this , but,and you knew there was going to be a butt, seems to me that gatlingunjim is a very intelligent man/woman/rogue scholar/government spie/movie actor/ or alien from outer space. It also seems to me that he took a really long way around to say that on the internet people are anonymous. This is true, to an extent. Many members here have met in person and even may share experiences that two human beings should never have had to do . Having said that, gatlingunjim, I am guessing that you have a lot of 'book' knowledge and not so much trigger time. I am an admirer of many different people for many different reasons, but I reserve a special degree of admiration for those who have slapped the devil in person and walked away from it. There is something you learn about life from horror. There are many times when confronted that someone who has seen and lived much worse than words, will simply walk away knowing they returned to you your life, without you ever knowing that it was 'on the table' to begin with. I will close by saying this place is much too small, the confines to tight to be bitchslapping at each other....lets just agree to disagree without being disagreeable. ......or we could go down to the pit and get it done right...just kidding.....

Who cares what Peggy Noonan thinks? Do you vote what Peggy Noonan votes because you can't think for yourself? I don't care who wins an election and who loses, it's dirty business and you can find anyone on any side which has nasty little details... While we're on the subject (you brought it up) since it's obvious it's a HUGE issue to you that she didn't get "O'Bidens" name right, I'll expect you to write your letter asking him to step down for all of the verbal gaff's he's committed. Since you're such a stickler for the details.

CCFAN: You still don't get it? You refuse to see the obvious, Palin is not unintelligent, shrewd, or dumb but she is intellectually lazy. Noonan and other conservative intellectuals did see it. With great reluctance and heavy hearts a significant number of high profile Republican intellectuals simply could not support a ticket with Palin only a heartbeat away from a 72 year old with a history of cancer. Do you really think they did that on a whim?

I'm not surprised you don't care what Peggy Noonan thinks or writes. After all she is from the intellectual wing of the conservative movement and the Republican party. As one of President Reagan's favorite speech writers and a respected historian that's enough to disqualify her from conservatives you either trust or read. So who are your ideological icons? Considering the sophomoric nature of most of your posts, either you are masquerading as, or you really are from the anti-intellectual wing of the conservative movement.

Can't you see who and what you come across as with your feeble and juvenile attempts to disparage a man who pulled himself together, buckled down, studied very hard, and went on to earn what anyone would conclude were impressive academic achievements. Do you a problem with education and with people who push themselves to learn? Or is your problem exclusively with President Obama's education?

Since I'm hesistant to assume too much about you, perhaps you can clarify your position with a reply to the following: Gaining acceptance to Harvard Law School is nothing, it takes no undergraduate or current work accomplishments whatsoever? Appointed as President of the Harvard Law Review is also nothing, it's not an achievement at all? Similarly graduating with a J.D. Magna Cum Laude, the second highest academic honor, from Harvard Law School, one of the Nation's top law schools is also nothing? I won't even ask about the next one, obviously passing a bar examination anywhere is also of no consequence. CCFAN maybe we ought to pen an open letter to Harvard Law School students and their parents to not waste their effort and money to achieve something that's actually no achievement at all!

How do you suppose Americans would answer the following: Coming from a modest background and rising to the Presidency of the United States in less than 50 years is a great achievement. Yes or no. Your vote is no, what percent of Americans would join you?

Finally, In your seeming pathological need to denigrate President Obama (does it help your ego?), you manage to even insult MacDonald employees. Goodness! Does your lack of respect for them extend to all fast food workers? If I'm not mistaken the current CEO of MacDonald's started out working for same. He is of course not the only former employee who succeeded big. I'm truly mystified: Does CCFAN really believe that President Obama has not achieved a single thing in his life by merit? Or is something else going on? Let's see if CCFAN really has the courage of his convictions.

Respectfully, Jim

Another odd post. I'm curious. Do you wait at least 24 or some number of hrs before you submit a reply to a post? When you politiclly label a poster or the President a liberal, a commie, socialist, Marxist, etc. what is your intent? What's the point? In your opinion is that a positive, neutral, or negative label? Are you referring to the messenger or the message? Are you aware that your political labeling of the same person often includes ideologies that are diametrically opposed? Is throwing around political labels your idea of debating the issues? Is it impossible for a smart man to write something stupid or ignorant? If an otherwise intelligent person writes something demonstrably ignorant should the messenger be given the benefit of the doubt? What if that person consistently write ignorant stuff must one accord the statement a degree of seriousness it does not deserve? Is it possible for the messenger to make themselves the message?

Back to your favorite topic the Constitution. Maybe I'm the only one, after reviewing all your posts I have no idea what you mean when you write "The Constitution". So, the Constitution of the United Stated has a short Preamble, 7 Articles, and 27 Amendments. When you write Constitution is that what you mean, every word and every Amendment unless you otherwise qualify the statement? What did you mean when you wrote several times: "We should go back to the Constitution".

As a civil servant of course you are always free to quit or resign for whatever reason. However, nothing in that oath implies that you have any authority to interpret the Constitution. Point of fact, you don't. I hope you are feeling better.
Respectfully, Jim
Btw Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution is about what? Why did you write that the 13th Amendment was unnecessary? Was the 14th necessary?
Dear Jim,

I'm smart enough to know that punctuation at the end of a sentence goes inside the quotes by American standards. Are you British?

Warmest regards,
DK
Mr Z. Kudos, you are the master of evasiveness and obfuscation. You mean, if I re-punctuated the sentence you might actually stick with the issue you started or actually answer a question?

I don't agree with President Obama's policies and politics either, but this photo (and the email that often accompanies it) is a hoax.

It is a cropped, mirror-image of the original which was taken on the White House lawn during a commemoration ceremony for the victims of 9-11 on 11 Sep 09. The original photo was published in Newsday. This hoax has photoshopped rings on the Obamas' left hands and photoshopped reverse buttons on his jacket. The hoaxer tried to blur the Marine in the background, but made a mistake when he forgot about the Marine's medals. Even though they are blurred, you can still see them above the wrong pocket on the Marine's uniform.

Here are real photos of the ceremony:

Of course it's a fake and anyone who isn't so filled with hatred for the man would have known that. My guess is they are the same people who cheered and danced in glee when they were "punked" by the phony birth certificate. There's one thing we know about zealots and that is the poisonous bile in their hearts interferes with their reasoning ability. Let's just call it what it is... sheer ignorance to put up an obvious phony photo. People celebrating actually claim to have been in the military, and they didn't notice that the Marine's decoration in the background of the reverse image are on the right side? And that was not the only clue it's a fake!

For you taken in by this hoax, you have been "punked" again! It's the same as when you all failed to notice that The Republic of Kenya did not exist on that date shown on that phony birth certificate that was actually Australian. So in your haste to portray the President as a know knowing you only exposed yourself....

Respectfully Jim

Ain't the INTERNETS a great thing! Fifteen to twenty years ago, we used to be limited to crudely produced XEROX copier jokes and tricks that were limited to fooling and amusing those in our own offices. Now we can use some fairly sophisticated editing tools to make very realistic looking hoaxes (and I don't just mean politically-related hoaxes) and fool hundreds of thousands and amuse millions. Yet, it still amazes me how many fall for them; my poor father (bless his heart, at 84 he loves to be on-line) gets suckered all the time.

Not that Jim needs me to speak for him, but "book knowledge" doesn't preclude "trigger time;" you can certainly have both. I remember in at least one of his earliest posts, Jim mentioned that he was an Army veteran, so he must have some "trigger time."

Jim's military service tells me that (regardless of which polictical party he supports) he's a patriotic American, who's been willing to put his life on the line to defend our nation, our Contsitiution, and all citizens' right to speak their minds and voice their beliefs or their objections to others' expressed beliefs. (That would include Jim's too.)

Military service = patriotism?

That's like saying "college graduate = educated".

It's not an absolute by any means.

WildBill: It is sooooo obvious you have no earthly idea why the 2nd Amendment was agreed to and what it meant. You all are just hilarious in so called zeal and reverence for a document most of you would not vote for exactly as it is if you had the chance to tomorrow!
So tell me again what the 2nd Amendment meant WildBill? :)

Dear Jim,

I think a lot of folks here would like you to tell us what you think the 2nd Amendment is all about. Please indulge us.
