Your Post, for reference.

You appear to be painting with a pretty broad brush and making some assumptions that may be less than valid. Perhaps you would be kind enough to list a few more of those societal resources my four kids are burdening. Education is moot, for two reasons:

First, my kids are home schooled,

Second, and more important is the premise that public education is an investment for which there will one day be a return. Any "burden" is a result of inefficiency in the educational system, not the number students being educated.

Now i'm gonna get out the broad brush and submit that the same can be said for most, if not all, of the services provided by "society" since we are, after all, really talking about Government. Society, as it were, ceded most of its social responsibilities to government long ago.

I say, if we want to slow the drain on society by these families, I propose that only people who "actually pay tax" should be eligible to vote.period.

I submit that anyone who works a regular job and pays taxes is not a drain on society's resources nor any of their family members if they aren't part of any government sponsored programs such as welfare, food stamps, medicaid, etc. This class essentially consumes nothing (or negligible) from the common pot sustained by tax dollars.

What else is left other than driving down a road that is maintained by tax dollars? I cant think of anything significant. The only "benefit" (IMO) that a tax paying American "consumes" is either bureaucratic (administrative costs when you file your taxes, etc) or defense.

Regarding only allowing those who pay taxes to vote, this is an excellent idea but how would it be managed and enforced. If the IRS issued you a chit that would only add to the bureaucracy and government payroll. Maybe you could show your last 3 pay check stubs?

Back in the olden times while I was still a burden to public education, they taught us that in the early days of the republic voting was restricted to white male land owners. Further, I seem to recall that while representatives to the US House were popularly elected, US Senators were appointed by the state legislatures. I don't advocate a return to such a state, but the founding fathers showed great wisdom when they established this nation, and it is quite possible that our current state of affairs is a result of men of lesser wisdom tinkering with our government for their own ends.

Those who most want to lead are, ipso facto, the least suited to do it.

Actually it was Benjamin Franklin who said:

"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."

And, Alexis de Tocqueville said something similar:

"When (Americans) discover that they can vote themselves money from the public till, the experiment will be over."

The fat lady HAS NOT made her appearance yet. We still have time to stop this madness. Read my signature line....I'm guessing that if 5 or 6 million Americans do a sit-in on DC and camp out in the streets that they will finally listen. After that we're down to only a couple of alternatives.
