VA transport laws

Post by EchoMirage »

what are the laws in VA pertaining to transportation of firearms? are there any? loaded/unloaded, cased, mags loaded, ammo separate, mags separate pouches, anything? asking for both pistols and long arms.

A citizen may not be required to offer a good and substantial reason why he should be permitted to exercise his rights. The right‘s existence is all the reason he needs.

IMHO, if you're a resident, get a CHP. Makes things easier.

There are many. More than 10 pages. Particularly in §18.2-308.1 and §18.2-308.2. Search the code of VA to find them. Here are a few.

§ 18.2-308.1:5. Purchase or transportation of firearm by persons convicted of certain drug offenses prohibited.

§ 18.2-308.2. Possession or transportation of firearms, firearms ammunition, stun weapons, explosives or concealed weapons by convicted felons; penalties; petition for permit; when issued.

I have never had an issues with keeping the ammo in my range bag and my guns in cases. You are allowed to OPEN CARRY in a car but your gun has to be easily seen from the outside of the car. I don't because all my windows are tinted and it is hard to seen in my car unless it is in bright sun.
