Re: Vintage 1911A1 & Modern Ammo

If that's gun porn It's full-frontal Double-D gold. Great piece.

Also, I CC my RIA 1911-A1 Every day, They're fantastic guns for the price. I've had well over 250 rds through it since February and I've not had a single jam that wasn't my fault.

Re: Man pulls gun on neighbor for farting

I don't think stories like this are funny. They definitely don't help the cause. This is exactly what my non gun owning family members think would happen if everyone is carrying guns (we were talking about scenarios just like this over the weekend). They believe if everyone is armed people are gonn...

Re: U.S. Navy, R.I.P.

The original story is so full of holes you can drive through it. However, i can hazard a guess that if a single female crewperson was to serve on a VC sub, the whole crew, or a vast majority, would have to be female. Attack subs are just too small to have 'co-ed' accomodatons.

Re: 1911 Jam on Takedown notch?

Are you shooting with both hands on the grip? I've heard of people accidently hitting the slide stop lever with the finger(s) of the supporting hand during recoil, resulting it it moving upwards enough to engage the notch in the slide. I Shoot southpaw, so the only finger nearby is the trigger fing...

Re: 1911 Jam on Takedown notch?

I know, i've never heard of the issue before either. It's the damnedest thing. I'll try to snap a pic or two the next time i pull the gun apart (which will be soon. it always is :P)

Yeah, it made me sort of nervous as well. Also, he straight up said that they reload the brass. Can't fault them though, because they let people carry off their own brass, so that's not too bad.

1911 Jam on Takedown notch?

When i was shooting yesterday, my 1911 jammed. When i took a look, the slide lock had jumped into the takedown notch area and gotten stuck. i ejected the mag, reset the bullet in the mag, and reset the gun. All was well after that, but that was a pretty odd jam. Anybody seen this before on a 1911? i...

[Non-Va] Shooter's Choice, Dover

Well, That was odd. I was in Deleware this weekend, and i decided to take my cousin (who had never been shooting before) to their local range for some plinking. When we got there, i noticed that there was a sign saying that all guns must be unloaded before entering the store. Easy enough i thought, ...

Re: Kansas bans Islamic law

This is insane. Reading the article one question came to mind: since when has anybody cared what laws are applied to civil matters, especially of different cultures? Obviously US law applies to criminal (and civil) cases, which means the only way an ethnic custom can be applied is with the consent o...

Re: All-steel subcompact

To be honest, i hadn't even considered a revolver. I got nothing against a revolver, barring capacity, but most compact semi-autos only hold 6 or 7 rds. anyhow....

I'll shop around the next time i'm at a dealer or show, which will be very shortly.

Thanks!

Re: All-steel subcompact

BW1911: You hit the nail on the head. I want this gun to carry in the summer, when carrying my Big ol' 1911 is a bit impractical. What i actually liked about the CZ i held was that it had tritium sights. However, they were, as you say, tiny. I'm a fairly large framed guy, and i usually wear jeans ap...

All-steel subcompact

Hello all, I am seriously considering getting a smaller, more concealable gun to compliment my 1911. I've tried glocks and similar polymer-lower guns, and i must say i just prefer the feel of a steel frame. I've been looking for cantidates for an all-steel gun that's small enough to easily conceal i...

Re: Took my 1911 down to parade rest today...

Huh. It's entirely possible, although i had a friend having the same issue. Then again, this is the first firearm i've so much as been near, and my friend has never used a 1911 before. So, I'll keep that in mind the next time it happens, and note my hand position.

Re: Took my 1911 down to parade rest today...

Good point, i'll check into that. Mostly though, the hammer wasn't releasing. I haven't had any light strikes (yet).

Thanks for the tip!

Re: First Handgun

With my newer RIA (~250 Rds.) i know that feeding that last roung into the magazine can be a challenge. If i don't make VERY sure the round is seated against the back of the magazine, the gun will have first-round feeding issues. Usually i can just eject the magazine, re-seat the round and continue ...

Took my 1911 down to parade rest today...

Wow, that was interesting. Took my RIA 1911 down to the bare frame today, which was definately a learning experience. The disassembly manual was ...lacking in detail, but youtube and this site helped me out greatly. I now have a better understanding of how the gun works, and it operates much more sm...

Re: 'Lo, new member!

Thanks for the warm welcome all! And yes Admiral, the nickel plated RIAs are nice, just not fo' me. Also, i took the gun to the range for the first time, and aside from two FTF's (one of which caused me to hit the cieling downrange...oops!) it performed like a champ. Then, i took it apart. And now i...

'Lo, new member!

Hello, Just joined up! My friend suggested perusing this site after i purchased a Rock Island 1911 on 1/21 (I just got it today. talk about "instant" background checks) That's it for my gun collection. This is my first gun, so i'll be asking a lot of basic questions, and taking a Concealed...
