Man pulls gun on neighbor for farting

Post by OakRidgeStars »

Insert pull-my-finger joke here :hysterical:

---

From NJ.com

TEANECK — An elderly man was arrested Monday night after a neighbor's fart allegedly drove him to threaten him with a gun, police said.

Daniel Collins, 72, had been involved in an ongoing dispute with the unidentified neighbor for some time, Det. Lt. Andrew McGurr told NJ.com. The neighbor told officers that Collins pointed a revolver at him in the vestibule of their apartment building at 694 Cedar Lane at around 9:25 p.m.

I used to work for Teaneck PD....and I remember when Andy McGurr was in the academy.

Damn, am I old or what?

IIRC, 694 Cedar Lane was the old folks home....I guess farting isn't tolerated there.

I don't think stories like this are funny. They definitely don't help the cause. This is exactly what my non gun owning family members think would happen if everyone is carrying guns (we were talking about scenarios just like this over the weekend). They believe if everyone is armed people are gonna go off about every little thing and whip out their gun.

...Which is a bit of a fallacy. if everybody had a gun, people would be *real* careful about who they threatened.

I find that owning a gun makes me more apt to avoid confrontations altogether.

I'm sorry, maybe I should have put "everyone" in quotes. Obviously if 100% of Americans (everyone) had a gun then these types of situations probably wouldn't occur. Over 200 years of this country being around with the right to own guns and as it stands only 30% of Americans are gun owners, it will take a tremendous amount of effort to keep moving the needle up and increasing the number of gun owners in the country. During that process there is a lot of wiggle room for these types of scenarios to play out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a spike in the number of incidents like this as the number of gun owners goes up before the number of incidents finally goes down. 40%, 50%, 60% gets real scary because that starts adding a lot of stupid people into the gun owner pool and still gives the stupid person a minimum of 40% chance that the person they draw on isn't carrying anything themselves.

Don't mock the old fellow. He comes from a time when these things i heard existed in the past called "manners" mattered. The man in question is 72, so his judgement is probably now a little off and he pulls a gun. Bad idea, especially in NJ since this will guarantee he dies of old age in prison.

Then again, how young/big was the uh, farter in question? Teaneck is ghetto as hell, he may not have wanted to die for correcting a thugs lack of manners hence he brought his gun out.
