Re: CC at the Nation's Gun Show?
yeah if the anti's found out that at the bastion of firearms, the american gun show, carrying loaded firearms wasn't allowed, they'd have a field day with that. total hypocrisy.

Re: 340 Defense 100 & 400 yd ranges closed
www.peacemakernational.com (about half an hour NW of 340) has a public range that has 100, 250 and 300 yd berms, with some steel at 250 and 300.
if you join you have access to another range there that has 600 and 1000 yard berms, though it's open at limited times. also a bunch of pistol bays.

Re: "test" idpa-style match at summit point racetrack
Sounds interesting - I'll give it a try. Besides the monthly KSTG match at the NRA Range, this will be the only other IDPA-like match I'm aware of that's within a reasonable drive for me. blue ridge arsenal has idpa one wed nite a month, similar to the kstg, one hour time slots. peacemaker range ha...

"test" idpa-style match at summit point racetrack
I have been asked to post this: I am going to try an IDPA style match at Summit Point Sunday, August 25. I have the signup at www.walnutridgeps.com. If you could help in any way to get the word out a little, I would appreciate it. I'll need at least 20 shooters to make it worthwhile. My plan is to u...

Re: dispatching snakes with handgun in residential areas
let the snakes live. they eat all the other stuff you really don't want in your house, and the snakes are only hanging around because their food source is there. pls check and double check online pics of snakes to be super sure you are killing a copperhead and not a northern water snake, garter snak...

re insurance, go thru some examples with your insurance company before you blindly pay the premium. some 25 years ago i had a new and unfired rifle stolen from my home and the insurance company wanted to 'depreciate' it significantly. gun safe is my insurance now.

Re: Sight-in Question
OP, you really should shoot your rifle/load at the various distances you expect to shoot it in the field, rather than just relying on trajectory tables. sight it in for 100 and see what it actually does at 25, 50, 200, 300. re ballistic tips on deer, they've been my favorite by far, explosive peform...

Re: Who needs a gun while on a leisurely stroll?
so how would that work out in court? you challenge a bunch of hoodlums, rather than just calling the cops and/or turning around and heading away from trouble. then when the punks come at you, you defend yourself and shoot them.
serious question.
serious question.

glad it worked out ok. if you don't have one, get a real stiff belt, as wide as your holster will fit, as it will help spread out the weight.

Re: Ohio LEO "Load your pistol, please"
after going thru all the hassle of carrying a firearm, don't understand why folks do this without a round in the chamber. if and when you need it you might not have time to spare to rack a round, or you might not have both hands free and available to do so. that said, a co-worker said their uncle re...

Re: Other than the NRA HQ, I heard that
bull run near manassas is a county park that has skeet, trap, sporting clays and wobble, nice place, very reasonable rates (pay as you go). isaac walton has a place south side of leesburg. rifle and pistol ranges and also skeet/trap. you have to pay to join and i think there are also work requiremen...

Re: POI shift with barrel chop
was the scope re-mounted? that could have something to do with it.
have you shot 3 - 5 shot groups at 100 yds? is the accuracy pretty much the same as before? if you're getting good accuracy, i wouldn't worry about the 'shift' too much.

Re: Info on West Virginia range (not far from VA state line)
i assume you've been to bull run skeet/trap/clays/wobble center? i like shooting there and definitely closer than peacemaker if you live near dulles. rates are pretty reasonable also. peacemaker is a pretty nice place. still in progress but they have 3 gun, idpa, uspsa going and i believe sporting c...

Re: Concealed Carry Drills?
find and participate in some idpa matches, also uspsa. not too many ranges let you run around shooting stuff, so these matches are your chance to do that. shooting behind cover or concealment, inside cars, etc, some real life and applicable situations. and they're a lotta fun.

Re: Virginia Man Charged in NJ With Possession of Hollow Points
This guy should have just kept his mouth shut and not disclosed any information. Better yet, he shouldn't have been in New Jersey to begin with. so in all seriousness, how does the discussion go? the cop asks if anyone has a gun. what does the guy say? if he respectfully declines to answer, doesn't...

Peacemaker range and training center near Martinsburg, WV is having an IDPA and also an USPSA match this Saturday. There are AM and PM slots for each. Re: Factory "Sighting In"
i definitely wouldn't assume any gun is sighted in from the factory. easy enough to verify though. remove bolt and look thru the barrel, finding some 'target' off in the distance. then look thru your factory sights and see if they also have that object in the crosshairs. if not, adjust sights until ...
