"test" idpa-style match at summit point racetrack

Post by davsco »

I have been asked to post this:

I am going to try an IDPA style match at Summit Point Sunday, August 25. I have the signup at www.walnutridgeps.com. If you could help in any way to get the word out a little, I would appreciate it.

I'll need at least 20 shooters to make it worthwhile.

My plan is to use the USPSA stages broken down into three or four smaller stages, coming up with 10-12 IDPA stages that way.

Until I see that this match has an appropriate turnout, the following caveats:
1-IPSC targets instead of IDPA targets
2-No IDPA sanction, but following closely following IDPA rules
3-White targets for no shoots, unless someone has a "hands" stencil or unless I have time to make one before Sunday

make sure the match is a "go" before coming out, as the MD says he needs 20 shooters to do this match.

Sounds interesting - I'll give it a try. Besides the monthly KSTG match at the NRA Range, this will be the only other IDPA-like match I'm aware of that's within a reasonable drive for me.

Yes, I have driven and instructed there. A combined event would be fun.

blue ridge arsenal has idpa one wed nite a month, similar to the kstg, one hour time slots.

peacemaker range has uspsa and idpa matches one weekend a month.

Thanks; I'm familiar with all those and have shot all but the KSTG match before. Blue Ridge now seems to alternate monthly between IDPA and two-gun matches. My eyes are not what they used to be and I don't shoot indoor matches much anymore. I prefer outdoors and fiber front sights that are a lot easier for my old eyes to see.

I just received an email from the match director saying that the Summit Point IDPA match was canceled since only six people signed up.

Cavalier (Montpelier, VA) has their monthly IDPA match on the 25th. I'll shoot it despite a nearly two-hour drive. I would have much rather driven to Summit Point and given a new venue a try.
