Re: Lake of the Woods and guns
LOW is a private, gated community. they have their own Fire & Rescue, their own schools, etc. I used to go there for SRT training weekly, the trainer lived there. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own. just like any home owners association they can put a lien against your property if you don'...

Re: Breaking In My New Kel-Tec 9mm
I've heard the rule of 3s; three yards, three seconds, three shots. not that you shouldn't train out further, even out to 50y maybe useful to you, but the 3s is the typical self-defense scenario for us civilian non-LEO types.

Re: Who needs a gun at the Dollar General store?
Sound point well made. But delve a little deeper. Say the BBQ guy takes a shot across a street (50 feet? - 75 feet? - 100 feet?) at the shooter as he enters the IHOP. What happens if some of those long-for-many-folks-with-a-pistol shots go a little wide, pass through the glass in the front of the b...

IANAL, but it's my understanding that in VA it's perfectly within the law to stop an armed robbery with force. if anyone is being threatened unlawfully (as in an armed robbery) you are legally able to step in and defend them.

one of the reasons I moved away from an SR9c carry, adjustable sights always leave me guessing.

bigger lens lets more light in, the higher the magnification the less light gets in. at 16x i bet the 50mm objective lens helps a bit making the image brighter. saves a few $$ on a smaller objective lens with better coatings.

Re: Teacher upset she can’t retire at 47
the "I have to work until I'm 70, so should everyone else" attitude? really? yes, if the original contract said "this contract is null and void in 3y and we'll renegotiate" then I would agree with the sentiment. I didn't read that anywhere in the article. are you suggesting that ...

Re: Get back on the grid. Now.
wow, and I thought I was paranoid... I do agree that those in charge would rather sheeple, but a small minority of off grid folks is the next best thing. I would be way more worried about other power hungry a-holes if I were in charge than these guys.

Re: Are these glow in the dark?
I don't have a set, so someone back me up here, but they are Tritium. it's a mildly radioactive isotope that has a half life around 10-12 years. meaning that it doesn't need exposure to light or anything to make it glow, it's self-sustaining just grows slowly dimmer over time. as opposed to glow in ...

Re: Glock 19 gen 4 or Springfield XD 9 pro/cons
the obvious answer is "whichever you shoot better".
personally, given only those two choices, I would go with the Glock. the grip safety on the XD is a big turn off for me. but Glock slides like to bite me, so that wouldn't be my first choice either.

Re: If you want to know why we must get rid of Obama, ..........
unfortunately the other "real" option is a much worse choice than Obama. I'll be throwing my vote away this year and going with Ron Paul. I actually like Obama on a personal level, just think he's ineffectual. I hated Bush with a passion, but one thing I'll say for the man is he got poop d...
