Ruger SR9 Windage adjustment?

Post by 2k05gt »

I purchased a Ruger SR9 a few months ago and was wondering if I am having an issue with the sites being off....

I have been tracking my ammo and accuracy and I noticed a pattern, gun seems to be favoring the left side.

I can correct the hits by aiming to the right a bit, then I can hit the center ring

I have noticed that. The Federal or winchester is alot better.
Here is a Target using Federal Walmart specials (this is a 6 inch target not an 8 inch)

the worst ammo is TulAmmo, I shot that yesterday and I can tell you the you get what you pay for.
TulAmmo 6 inch Target...

Front Site - looks a little off..

Rear Site

Should I send it to the Gun shop to be adjusted?

The sights on a Ruger SR9 should be fully adjustable. Is there a screw on the left or right side of the REAR sight?

What distance are you shooting at? Have you let someone else shoot it? Often it's just a trigger control issue...can you dry fire it without moving the sights?

Yes I let two other people shoot it and they both say that it's shooting to the left.

Yes I practice dry firing and no movement, I also setup my video camera so I could watch to see
if I was anticipating recoil, or jerking the trigger, but no movment of the gun until it fires.

I am shooting at 25 ft or a little over 8 yards,
I have shot about 600 rounds through it and the Each time I notice that it drifts left, if I aim just right of the center I hit the center.

Yeah, I've got an SR9. You can do the adjustment yourself. No special tools needed.

one of the reasons I moved away from an SR9c carry, adjustable sights always leave me guessing.

Yes those allen screws should be your adjustment. To move the sight you want to uh... turn clockwise a bit, take a few shots, rinse and repeat until desired results.

The SR9 is adjusted for windage by moving either the front or rear sight. I'd suggest the rear. Loosen the set screw with a 6/64" allen wrench and tap the sight in the direction you want to move the POI. I usually mark the center of the sight so I know how much I moved it. See page 31 of the manual. Not hard to do, but you can spend some time moving it back and forth if you over adjust.

Two shooting "errors" can also cause the shot pattern. Vertical is sight placement. The left can be from increasing grip pressure or relaxing an elbow during the shot. http://www.targetshooting.ca/docs/grp-analysis.pdf
