Re: My daughter wants to shoot competitively

The Wylde is basically a tight chamber and throat designed for accuracy, but that's going to make it a poor choice for tactical purposes. I just wanted to make sure you understood that difference, nothing more. Not many people do which is why I mentioned it; they assume that .223/5.56mm and the cha...

What do you recommend in that general price range?

Re: My daughter wants to shoot competitively

Jim, Get her one of these http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=226 and some magazines and ammo. that will set her up for some of the Quantico shooting. Thanks! Recoil with a .223? Really? :hysterical: It's nowhere near what an M-14 or M-1 Garand has. Tha...

Re: My daughter wants to shoot competitively

Charlie & Gunderwood,

Thanks guys, but Quantico is 10 minutes away and the NRA range is well over an hour on the best of days. I'll ask her what she wants to do, but I'd like to keep it local if I can.

Re: My daughter wants to shoot competitively

Smaller is probably better so you don't put her off with recoil, but I would stress that she should choose (within reason). What does she want to compete in? What appeals to her? Much like a CC piece, if you don't take pride in it you won't put in the hard work to maintain it, practice, etc. I'd re...

My daughter wants to shoot competitively

All, My daughter-in-law used to shoot bb guns in middle school and now she wants to start shooting competitively again. I don't think there's any Small-Bore in our area, so I thought I'd get her set up for Service Rifle and XTC. I don't want her to be turned off by a high power rifle, so I thought I...

Re: Black Powder

There's no place near Stafford that sells real black powder that I know of. Clark Brothers sells GOEX by the pound. You can get it cheaper at http://blackpowderva.com if you don't mind driving to Winchester. What kind of powder do you use? I've got about 35 pounds of Schuetzen 2Fg and 3Fg. BTW, welc...

Here some photos of my blunderbuss that Al Edge made for me. She has a 10 gauge brass barrel, Chambers Early English lock, 1st Model Brown Bess furniture and I got to pick out the wood. http://grapeshot.org/images/Coachgun_1_small.jpg http://grapeshot.org/images/Coachgun_2_small.jpg http://grapeshot...

I'd stick with a flintlock. Percussion caps are a passing fad and soon everyone will be shooting flintlocks again.

Re: Springfield M1A

I was issued an M14 for the individual matches back in '83 and I've wanted an M1A ever since. I finally bought a SOCOM 16 from Trader Jerry and will be picking it up at the Chantilly Gun Show next week. I can't freakin' wait!
