Springfield M1A
Springfield M1A
Does anyone have one? Thinking about getting one and want to hear your opinions. Even though it costs $1500, my wife said I could get it. I've been wanting one for a little while now.

As far as pictures go, here is the M1A

Re: Springfield M1A
I'm with Vern on this one. If the wife said to get it and you want one, do it before she changes her mind
I want one too. Just been spending all of my money on nice bolt guns instead. As a battle rifle the 20 round mags always seemed too long, IMHO. 20 rounds of .308Win in a AR10 works well because you have the pistol grip which is just as long. Great rifles though.

I'm like you, I've always wanted one, mainly because my parnter carried a M-14 in nam. The one thing that has kept me away has been price of parts. Very expensive! I bought an AR-10 which is I would say a updated version of a M1A1. I bought a Panther AR-10 in .308 and have never regreted for a minute. You may want to look at that. Just my 2 centsUnkn0wN wrote:Does anyone have one? Thinking about getting one and want to hear your opinions. Even though it costs $1500, my wife said I could get it. Well I can't get it quite yet. She said I can, but I have to sell my Jetski first. One of my co-workers is going to buy it, but I have to wait to get the cash first (hopefully tomorrow or Saturday). She don't want me dipping into our savings anymore. So I sell Jetski, I get rifle and the rest goes into savings to replenish some I have already spent.

Seems like a fair arrangement.Unkn0wN wrote:Well I can't get it quite yet. She said I can, but I have to sell my Jetski first. I picked up a SOCOM II not long ago. Unfortunately, I've got to wait until my shoulder heals a bit before I can take it out to the range. Doctor's orders = no rifle shooting (I did talk her into letting me shoot handguns, at least).
There are a couple of M1As at the shop - I have to say, they sure are good looking guns.

Re: Springfield M1A
Nope can't do that, lol. I love the old school wood look of bad @ssness that the M1A has. The M1A is just too beautiful to pass up. I went to 2 guns shops yesterday during lunch and fondled their M1A they had. Let's just say they had to clean the guns and floor when I was done from all my drool....Paliden wrote:I bought a Panther AR-10 in .308 and have never regreted for a minute. The SOCOM II is one sweet rifle, but it takes away all the wood that I love. And since when does anyone do what the doctor says? HaHa!!
Ok, we don't need to push the wife's buttons too much.... She thinks $1500 is too much for any type of gun, she would never fly for $2400. I am grateful for what she let's me spend now. I just got a new safe last weekend, and now she has already said yes to this gun, I don't want to push it, I like my bed, our leather couches get cold at nightDiomed wrote:Screw the Springer with cast parts - save up a bit more and go for the gold: LRB M14S.

Re: Springfield M1A
Yeah, I have to say the M1A with wood furniture at the shop is prettier than my SOCOM II, though there's something to be said for "urban camo"...Unkn0wN wrote:The SOCOM II is one sweet rifle, but it takes away all the wood that I love. And since when does anyone do what the doctor says? HaHa!!

As far as following doctor's orders, I only do it because I know it'll hurt like a @(#*$& if I don't (been there, done that).
That there sounds like the voice of experience.Unkn0wN wrote:I like my bed, our leather couches get cold at night

Re: Springfield M1A
Well I had a M1A1 Springfield National Match with the heavy barrel and birdseye wood stock that I shot in High Power Comp. for many year's. I gave it along with about 1,000 rds. of National Match Ammo to my oldest son last year. I loved that weapon but my body won't let me get into those hurting position's anymore for shooting. I did make High Master!

I really like the classic look of the M1A/M14 design... kinda like the Garand with a supercharger...

Re: Springfield M1A
That is exactly my problem. Would rather spend that kind of money on a bolt gun...for now.Diomed wrote:Screw the Springer with cast parts - save up a bit more and go for the gold: LRB M14S.
The SOCOM IIs are nice, but kinda front heavy with all of the rails IMHO. They make variants with less rails out front that I like much better.

Re: Springfield M1A
Well, I should be picking up an M1A tomorrow hopefully.
Not experience, just smart thinking.... I keep my house cold and I know what they feel like at night when I have shorts on and the leather touches the skin on my legs. Don't want to have to try and sleep on that, lol.Riana wrote:That there sounds like the voice of experience.

What did you end up getting? A traditional M1A or a SOCOM?Unkn0wN wrote:Well I bought it today, but don't have it yet!!! GRRRRRR!!! Dang b/g check didn't come back before the shop closed! So I have to wait until Tuesday to pick up my beautiful new darling....
