Nova Armament in Herndon charges $25 for handguns, $35 for long guns. You can submit a transfger request via online form.
Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly charges $52 for either. You have to go into the shop to submit the form which is kind of inconvenient.

Re: Interstate Travel to Another State
One thing to note about all this reciprocity stuff.... the maps at at usacarry.com are more accurate than the ones on handgunlaw.us. Usacarry takes into account whether your permit is resident or non-resident. For instance, I have the VA resident's permit. I've recently applied for the AZ non-reside...

Re: Where to shoot in/near Winchester?
Maybe this post is a little old now but.... 340 Defense, just over the border in Rippon, WV, is a decent outdoor range near Winchester. They have 25, 50, 100, and 400 yard lanes. They emphasize safety but otherwise don't have a lot of the silly, bureaucratic rules that are common at other ranges. Ch...

Re: Ruger LCP laser
Thanks for the replies. I just got the gun and have a Galco IWB on order. Im thinking that the Crimson Trace wont fit in the holster but maybe the LaserLyte will? [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://vagunforum.net/images/mobile.png The LaserLyte is very thin, barely adds anything to the width of...

Re: Ruger LCP laser
I have the LaserLyte for the LCP, model CK-AMF. It's a nice little unit that is fairly inexpensive (about $100) and attaches to the right side of the frame. You pop out the factory pins and replace them with the pins supplied by Laserlyte. You then just screw the laser into the new pins and adjust f...

I'll hop down off my soapbox here to simply say thanks for the information. What you said struck a cord with me and I hope I didn't offend you. It's been nice to be welcomed into a new online community of people with similar ideals. I look forward to future posts. No, I get it man, no problem. I ju...

Re: May be moving to Herndon/Sterling/Chantilly area...
I live in Herndon and work in Chantilly. Probably repeating what a few others have said but a few comments: Like most of Fairfax County, the area is pretty nice with decent neighborhoods and good schools. A lot of professional, white-collar types. Good shopping centers, close to major highways, and ...

Re: taurus TCP vs RUGER LCP
Feels solid and well-made although the Pro-Mags seem better made and fit better with less wiggle than the Ruger OEM mags. I think this may be the first time I've ever seen anyone imply that ProMag is better than OEM. Red letter day! Yeah, I don't know who makes them but the Ruger OEM mags say "...

Re: taurus TCP vs RUGER LCP
Never shot the Taurus but I love my LCP. Easy to carry in a wide range of jackets or pants with an Uncle Mike's #1 pocket holster. Its a little snappy to shoot but not unpleasant. Sights are pretty weak but its very accurate up to about 15 yards. I haven't tried it much beyond that since I figure it...

Re: NOVA Armament - Herndon, VA - Review
I needed someone to receive an FFL transfer last week. I first called Blue Ridge Arsenal. They wanted me to come into the shop, fill out a form, and charge $52. Instead I went to Nova. Convenient online form and $25. Deal was done quickly and efficiently. The folks were nice, pleasant and helpful. T...

Re: WTB my first firearm
If this is your first firearm, please make sure you get some thorough practice with it, investigate the alternative methods of carry, and understand the carry and deadly-force laws in VA before you start carrying it around. You should get a copy of "The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide" and mayb...

Re: Wyoming did it!!!
[ Too many "progressives" have moved into Northern and Tidewater and poluted the body politick. If we could somehow contrive to give all counties that border the potomac east of about Fauquier County to Maryland or the District of Columbia, we might return to the venerable "Virginia W...

Re: Top Gun Indoor Shooting Range - Harrisonburg, Va
I took a trip out to Harrisonburg a couple Saturdays ago to visit my son who attends JMU. We made a "ballistic" day out of it and went to the gun show, hit some of the local gun stores, and tried out Top Gun. The gun show was okay, basically a smaller version of the Chantilly show we usual...

Re: Legalizing Drugs-What's Your Opinion
Interesting. I wrote a term paper in a high school government class about why pot should be legalized.... back in 1979. We're still talking about the same issues 30-some years later. I don't think its gonna happen.

Got my VA CHP Today
I mailed the application and required documents to Fairfax County Circuit Court on Friday 11/26 the day after Thanksgiving. It was officially issued 1/10 and I got it today in the mail. Just about 45 days, allowing a couple days on each end for the mail and for the holidays in between. Got a nice &q...

Re: Thoughts on .32 cals?
Thanks guys. We'll probably end up going with a .38 spl. Just to clarify, my concern was not so much with the .38 in general but with using it in one of those small pocket revolvers like the Charter Undercover or Ruger LCR. And Nick is right, we haven't tried any of them yet but will soon. If its no...

Thoughts on .32 cals?
I'm helping my sister decide on a concealable firearm. We're thinking about a small 5-shot pocket revolver. Something safe, easy to use, and low maintenance, mainly for use when hiking and camping. She is small and doesn't have a lot of hand strength. S&W, Charter, and Tarus have a couple nice m...
