Re: New to ARs--custom build through local shop?
I'm glad you came to a very well informed decision. DD makes good stuff, I especially love their Omega rails. For optics I would check out a good Aimpoint (look at their catalog to make sense of the models haha) as they are tough as nails and have battery life that is ridiculously long. The rifle c...

Re: New to ARs--custom build through local shop?
I would caution you against building a custom rifle unless you know exactly what you want and how to do so. A big reason is that "custom" AR-15s have very little resale value (if you ever get tired of it), unless you use premium parts, which cost more. What I would strongly suggest, is th...

Re: New to ARs--custom build through local shop?
Thanks for the additional info, grumpyMSG, especially the bit about getting a complete upper instead of piecing together the upper and BCG. I've been doing a lot of looking at the Bravo Company website lately, but it's a bit frustrating as they (and many other vendors) have *so* many items out of st...

Re: New to ARs--custom build through local shop?
I appreciate all the responses thus far. If I can find a complete lower and complete upper that I really like I may try to just order those separately and thus escape the federal excise tax (thanks, JDbudzo, that was my original intent). If I can't find complete uppers/lowers that suit my fancy then...

New to ARs--custom build through local shop?
Background Pretty much a novice when it comes to firearms, but less knowledgeable in some areas (e.g., rifles) than others (e.g., semi-auto pistols and shotguns). While not a mechanical whiz, not mechanically inept either (i.e., I follow instructions well and can generally pick things up fairly qui...

Got my Utah CFP
Thanks, ProShooter! I attended one of your Utah CC classes in Ashland back in June. It was issued 41 days after my application check was cashed, and showed up in my mailbox 9 days later. I feel like I should take a trip to Georgia to celebrate. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://vagunforum.net/i...

Utah CFP application question
Hi Everyone, I'm in the process of apply for a non-resident Utah CFP, and had a question about answering one of the yes/no questions on the form. The particular question is: "Have you ever been convicted of an offense involving the use of alcohol? (i.e., DUI/DWI, alcohol related reckless, unlaw...

Re: PA CCW Permits
Quick question for anyone who's filled out this PA application before: I see boxesfor employer, employer address, work phone, etc., and they aren't labeled optional. I'm not entirely sure why, but I feel a little iffy putting that information down--I don't know if they intend on contacting my emplo...

Re: Privately selling handguns...really that simple?
A common issue, and the comments pretty much reflect the feelings of people I've spoken with about the topic. Clearly, in Virginia, you can sell pretty much any personal property you own to anyone who wants to buy it, and the level of formality legally required is whatever the buyer and seller choo...

Re: carrying at work (a no carry establishment)
First of all, I really don't think being fired for policy violations will screw you from getting a job. From what I understand former employers can only confirm (to new or prospective employers) that you worked there and for how long. They can't divulge any other details of your employment. So if y...

Re: carrying at work (a no carry establishment)
If you decide to carry a weapon against your company's policy's and get terminated I can almost see how you would be blackbaled with this type of violation to carry on behind you. Bill I was talking with a good friend about this issue earlier, and we discussed the very point you brought up above--i...

This is all awesome food for thought--thanks, guys! Looks like I have plenty of options to hypothetically consider.

carrying at work (a no carry establishment)
Let me preface this by saying that I'm not asking for any legal advice here--I'm just looking for people's opinions . That said... I work for a company that specifically states in its associate handbook that the carrying of firearms onto company property is not allowed and is a terminable offense. I...

Re: In mine hands in only 9 days.
It's been nearly 5 weeks and I'm still waiting. No reason it should take this long, unless they're purposely drawing it out as a sort of mandatory waiting period. Where? Loudoun Co.? Albemarle Co. Against all odds, though, I actually got a call from the Court Clerk's Office on Friday afternoon (abo...

Applied on Sept 28 here in Albemarle myself. Still waiting, and I have to go back to the courthouse when it finally shows up.
Lame.
