Re: SKS opinions

If you want a detachable magazine-fed, "tactical" rifle, get an AK. SKS's are great rifles, but once you add goofy stocks and detachable mags to them, you're losing out on the reliability and the point of an SKS. An SKS can never really be pressed into service to do an AK's job.

Re: Gun/Pawn Shop with used revolvers near Fairfax

Previous posters are correct, revolvers, with the exception of small/J-frame revolvers, do tend to sit, so many dealers aren't determined to stock them as much as semi-autos with faster turn-arounds. I tend to see better revolver selections in more rural gun stores and some of the bigger chains that...

Re: Sig or Springfield 1911

.38 Super is relatively hard to find ammo, and is very hard on the gun, since it operates at a high pressure. I'd stick with .45 unless you plan on competing with it (as .38 Super is a competition round, mainly.) I would also again point towards Springfield being the better 1911 of the two brands. T...

Re: Torn, USP .45 or HK45

The USP45 (full size) has a 12-round magazine, whereas the HK45 has a 10-rounder in order to fit the backstrap system. If you don't mind the 2 less rounds, go with the HK45. People in the know rave about it being the best .45 on the market. The only reasons, in my opinion, to go with the USP.45 over...

Re: Any CZ owners?

I've fingered a couple of P-01s. They're nice, balance well, and I love the decocker instead of the safety. I'd totally get one if I was in the market.

Re: Sig or Springfield 1911

I'd also vote for the Springfield, they've been in the 1911 game a long time. And I'd also caution against the 3" as well, too many reliability problems unless you spend lots of cash on a semi-custom gun. A good 4" or 4.25" barreled gun would be an excellent choice, such as a Springfi...

Re: transfer of ownership from MN to VA

Not true, only interstate transfers of handguns and regulated firearms (like "assault weapons" in some states) need to go through an FFL.

Re: transfer of ownership from MN to VA

Because they are LONG GUNS you can take possession in that state or she can bring them to you. HANDGUNS cannot be transferred to out of state residents in any state.

Once you have the guns as long as you aren't a felon or a nut, you are good to go. No registration of any kind in the state.

I've shot a 300 BLK AR and it shot REAL smooth, especially with the subsonic rounds. Recoil was SURPRISINGLY light.

Re: Question for VA FFL's or People with UPINs

You can only do Voluntary Appeals if you are denied. Being put "In Research" is a Virginia thing that is pretty much a super delay. Oh and having a UPIN won't fix delays, it ensures you WILL be delayed, because they have to manually check the UPIN number. Here's a question, did your FFL ca...

Re: Gun Purchase "Delayed" or "In Research"

Whether or not you are moved from delayed to research is not affected by how busy the VSP is or whether or not NICS is up or down. Those only affect how LONG you'd be delayed or in research. If you get put in research often you can get a UPIN from the ATF or FBI (I forget which). While the Unique Pe...

Re: Best way to carry a CZ82?

I use the comp-tac MTAC to carry my 1911 which is essentially the same holster you are sporting. I would not hesitate to carry a cocked and locked CZ82 in a holster like that.

Re: Best way to carry a CZ82?

I wouldn't worry about it. My daily carry is cocked and locked. A good exercise is to put a snap cap or keep it unloaded while you "test the limits" of the safety and hammer (and I mean apply reasonable forces on the gun that may occur during carry and see if the hammer falls or the safety...

Re: Question about new gun, first time firing Glock30SF

Yeah your gun is just dirty. The cheaper the ammo the dirtier it tends to be. And I'll echo the previous posts on defensive loads. Loads like the Gold Dot, the HST, and the Ranger-T are probably the best loads out there.

Re: SKS or AK?

Actually, I was talking about two different things. The folding stock would only be on a rifle, not one of the AK pistols. Hm, so can I legally have a folding stock on a Draco? Can't be that hard to spot weld one on. I'm leery of taking federal law advice on the Internets (not to belittle your advi...

Re: Ballots cast for Romney came up Obama on machine

It's probably a touch screen calibration problem. If the machine isn't calibrated right, it may read a touch and offset its input to however off the calibration is.

Re: Live in Virginia, but registered in California

No. You can only take possession of a handgun in your own state of residence from a person/business in that state. So you'd have to go to California, buy a handgun THERE, and bring it back to VA.

You CAN, however, buy/receive a rifle or shotgun either in Texas or Virginia (or any other state.)

Re: SKS or AK?

I'd get an AK before I got a Ruger Mini rifle. The AK is a bit more robust and the accessory market is much, much larger for the AK. Plus good magazines are more reliable and available for the AK than the Mini rifles, especially the Mini-30. But for a truck gun a WASR-10 would get the job done.

Re: SKS or AK?

I see mostly the WASR types mentioned, something called the VZ2008, the VEPR, something called the AMD-65, the Saiga, and the Zastava. WASRs are alright as long as you can get your hands on it before you buy and check for straightness of the sights and gas block, as well as magazine fit. M10-762 ri...
