Gun/Pawn Shop with used revolvers near Fairfax
Gun/Pawn Shop with used revolvers near Fairfax
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a shop with a decent selection and turnover of used revolvers near Fairfax. I'm specifically interested in Smith & Wessons. I've been to Sharpshooters, Nova Armament and VA Arms, and while they sometimes get a few in, they aren't really what I'm looking for.
Re: Gun/Pawn Shop with used revolvers near Fairfax
I haven't seen any shops arround NoVA that have any 'decent' selection of revolvers... and never anything remotely good, where used is concerned.
I occasionally find good things at Virginia Arms, but the stock is highly variable, and mostly consignments.
Revolvers are slow sellers on the best of days, and any shop only has limited shelf space so they try to put higher turn over items on the shelf. The price I've heard shops offer to people trying to sell revolvers to them almost makes me cry.
You'll probably have much better selection with gunbroker, or other online sales options.

I have had similar experiences with JDonovan's view on used revolvers in the north east Virginia area. And none are bargain-priced at the stores... I routinely visit most of the gun stores I am aware of that are located between Fredericksburg and the DC beltway. The dealers offer about 35 to 50% values tops on purchases for resale at full value. With patience and some more looking around at the online sites you should be able to find some good prospects and start honing your bargaining skills to success with finding good deals. Good luck.

you will probably do better to get on the S&W forums. I would comb the local shops and gun shows for specific ones but just ended up buying online.

I've always been impressed with VA Arms' selection of revolvers. Obviously, in today's climate, shelves are bare, but before the madness, they usually had 2-3 entire glass display cases dedicated to revolvers.
I was there this past week (picking up my S&W 617-6 woot!) and they had several ruger models.
I use gunsinternational.com and also http://smith-wessonforum.com.
What specific models are you looking for?

Try All Shooters Tactical if you don't mind a drive to Woodbridge. They are on the web and Face Book.
They usually have a fairly decent selection.

I was looking for a pre-model K22. I ended up making a trade on VA gun trader. I'm still unimpressed when I visit the local stores-more so since the panic started. I've been to All Shooters-pretty decent selection of used guns there.

I haven't been there in years but in Fairfax City across the street from Patriot Harley Davidson is a pawn shop that had a whole wing of display cases dedicated to firearms and one case was always full of revolvers.

In FFx city, do you still need the approval of the police chief? Iirc, it was a week waiting period for the additional background check and signature.

And if Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell!

Re: Gun/Pawn Shop with used revolvers near Fairfax
Previous posters are correct, revolvers, with the exception of small/J-frame revolvers, do tend to sit, so many dealers aren't determined to stock them as much as semi-autos with faster turn-arounds. I tend to see better revolver selections in more rural gun stores and some of the bigger chains that sells handguns, myself. But if you're looking for a specific older guns, GunBroker is really the only way to go nowadays.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance... wait... when did that happen?
