Re: Anyone tried an Encore Katahdin in .460 S&W?

Maybe I'll just bob the muzzleloader barrel down to 22" to lose some carry weight and lose the scope. I have yet to have a shot on deer over 40 yds.

I am now also considering a custom barrel in .357 Max. Bellm tightens 'em up pretty good for the Encore.

Re: Recommendations for a BP rifle?

I have never used anything other than Blackhorn 209 powder. It's expensive, but considering you can shoot and shoot and shoot and not have to swab the bore, it's worth every penny. AMEN brother... After I tried that stuff, never again 777 or Pyro. I have a Triumph and love it. People resist it beca...

Re: Cleaning a BP pistol

http://www.gunzilla.us/products.htm A little goes a long way. Cleans, lubes, protects and smells reasonable. You can wipe down the outside with it (very lightly). I use it for all my guns including my ML. The only time I get out the Hoppe's is to thoroughly clean my breech plug in a hurry (which you...

Re: Proposed new ML hunting regulation

... As I said (most people can not handle a handgun good enough) ... And what does this have to do with the appropriateness or effectiveness of any given weapon? I can't shoot a bow, so I don't. Doesn't mean I can't shoot a ML handgun, nor should I be prohibited from doing so as long as the game an...

Re: Proposed new ML hunting regulation

Sorry, but I don't feel that most people are competent with a handgun to hunt with them in black powder where they will only be limited to one shot that just might be a wounding shot. It is bad enough that some or most people that I know don't practice with the Black Powder weapons that they have u...

Proposed new ML hunting regulation

I have recently approached my district DGIF board member to inquire about creating a common-sense regulation allowing muzzle-loading pistols for big game. Many states already allow this with restrictions on caliber (> .45), barrel length (>10 inches), and energy (>500 ft. lbs. at 100 yds.). (my sour...

Re: Forum Width - Does it fit your screen?

I'm using Firefox and have noticed a few times during the past couple of weeks that I get a wide screen that scrolls off to the right...its not been consistent though and I usually get a normal screen...not sure what the prob is and thought it was on my end... I've noticed the same thing occasional...

Kinda an Oxey-Moran isn't it NRA Convention and Anti-Gun Is the hotel venue driving the Anti-Gun? I would have went just to hear Glen Beck if for nothing else but work got in the way Vern I think he was referring to the place where the convention is held being a "Gun Free Zone". Is that c...

To paraphrase Jim Croche,

"You don't tug on Superman's cape,
You don't spit into the wind,
You don't pull the mask of that old Lone Ranger,
And you DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HIM."

Re: first day of my life as a reloader

...My powder of choice for lighter .44 Mag loads is Titegroup. It burns pretty cleanly and is relatively position-insensitive in the case (also good for .45 Colt for this reason). For heavier loads, I use the traditional 2400. Hey, it works. :-) I also see "cowboy" loads for Titegroup dow...

Re: first day of my life as a reloader

Congrats, Ben! The Lee Classic Turret Press is a great piece of machinery. One question. Do you primarily load handgun ammo or rifle ammo? Glad to hear this since I bought one also. Haven't set it up yet since I still need to go get some reloading manuals and some powder. Reloading for a .44 mag an...
