Re: Clean gun or dirty gun?

I would agree that there's no 100% right answer for cleaning. Did find out the hard way that there was a wrong answer for me-- I bought an Outers Foul Out electrolytic lead and copper remover several years back. Used it on an old Winchester 670 in .308 that had above average accuracy (for me) before...

Re: Chantilly junk show

I used to go 3 out of 4 Chantilly shows. Not any more, skipped all in the last year. Just can't justify the time trouble and cost for an overcrowded venue with an iffy inventory. I miss it but not enough to go back any time soon, especially after seeing all the negative reviews.

Gun Safety / Paintball

So I was invited to go to a paintball range with a group from work. Seems a little creepy to me--- every gun safety class I've taken says "never point a gun at a person unless you intend to kill them". Also, I hunt and don't want to have the reflex of shooting at a person. I know it's a pa...

Stop Coddling the Super-Rich, by Warren Buffett http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/15/opinion/stop-coddling-the-super-rich.html?_r=1&src=ISMR_HP_LO_MST_FB From the article: "Since 1992, the I.R.S. has compiled data from the returns of the 400 Americans reporting the largest income. In 1992, the...

Re: Viriginia is really a gun hating state - here's why

I have to say that I felt the same way as rynhere when I first moved into NOVA from Oklahoma 16 years ago. Compared to OK there aren't many places to shoot in VA, and the ones closest to me are costly and usually crowded. I don't think it's a conscious effort to set up laws to stop people from targe...

NYC awards $1 billion contract to Nissan

This makes me crazy. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/nissan-taxi-contract-new/2011/05/03/id/395044 http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110503/us_nm/us_newyork_taxi NYC awarded a $1 billion contract to build taxis to Nissan. The taxis are to be built in Mexico. Apparently word of the US unemployment rate h...

Re: Convicted of a Felony & Right to Bear Arms...

I personally believe that most convictions are well deserved. Some convictions are just the tip of the ice berg-- like someone getting caught after committing dozens of felonies, charged with 3 or 4 and bargaining down to 1 or 2. At the same time there are some convictions that were for political re...

Re: Recreational shooting on your property?

Looks like some really good suggestions. If I were going to build my own range I'd get the NRA source book on building ranges, http://materials.nrahq.org/go/product.a ... AR%2014861 . $19.95 on CD. Good luck!

Re: Prince William Izaak Walton League Members

I'm a member of the Loudoun IWLA. There is no sponsorship requirement. Basically you just fill out the membership application and show up at one of the meetings with a check, be voted in and then attend an orientation to show you around the ranges and give you the lock combinations. The web site is ...

Re: NRA range, Fairfax Virginia

I've been going to the NRA range off and on since it opened. When I first started going I was told that firearms must be unloaded and cased with the action open when entering or leaving the range area. I've had an RO check for that when I put away a firearm. Just a personal opinion-- I don't like sh...

Re: silver eagle group, ashburn va

I used Silver Eagle Group for an FFL transfer recently and was very impressed. The cost was $35.00. I might have found a cheaper place but not better; it was the fastest I've ever gone through an FFL transfer. All the staff I met there were friendly, attentive. As soon as deer season is over I'll be...

Re: Ranges in North VA?

There's also an Izaak Walton League in Loudoun County. It has a 100 yard rifle/pistol range and a skeet range. They're always welcoming new members. If you're looking for hunting as well, consider National Sportsmans Association, a hunting club at http://www.nsa-inc.com/. They have 2 or 3 outdoor ra...

Re: New Gun Shop in Herndon

I'd like to see surplus ammo sales. For general practice I just need something that goes bang, not high-end ammo. .223, 7.62 X 39, .308, 9mm and .45 ACP surplus would keep me coming back.

I'm really looking forward to your shop opening, best of luck with it.
