Gun Safety / Paintball

Post by nothalfbad »

So I was invited to go to a paintball range with a group from work.

Seems a little creepy to me--- every gun safety class I've taken says "never point a gun at a person unless you intend to kill them". Also, I hunt and don't want to have the reflex of shooting at a person. I know it's a paintball gun not a real firearm, but still...

Am I just over thinking it or do others feel the same way?

I'm not a big paintball fan, either. But I have different reasons. Shooting someone with paintballs sounds like fun to me, but I'm not willing to be shot with them. Therefore, I leave the sport alone.

I love paintball it's fun, it's exciting, and it hurts just enough to motivate you. Most places just have requirements to keep barrel sleeves on until your on the course and everyone's mask is on. Although you still should "never point a gun at a person unless you intend to kill them" in paintball to. And in paintball the goal is to "kill" the enemy.

As far as:
Also, I hunt and don't want to have the reflex of shooting at a person. I know it's a paintball gun not a real firearm, but still...
It's all about your mindset. In your mind while playing paintball your looking for enemy combatants. In hunting your looking for your animal. The mindsets and whole task are almost completely different.

Short answer: Your over thinking it! Go have fun it really is a blast as long as your not a sissy.

Side Note: I wouldn't call it a great simulator of combat because most of the rentals have very limited range. I would put the max range of rentals at about 20 yards, so you got to be really aggressive. More so than you could have marksmanship like you do with real guns. But it it's a fun team builder and a good way to getting to know people.

Thanks all for your replies. Sounds like harmless fun, think I'll give it a shot. Pun intended.
