Need an attorney for Arlington County, VA

Request : Can anyone recommend a few attorneys (or a list) who are equipped to dealing with gun laws and serve Arlington County general district court? What happened : A friend of a friend was arrested carrying an unfinished (brand new, unaltered) 80% lower receiver through the DCA airport TSA chec...

Re: WTB: Hi-Point 45ACP or 9mm (FTF near Richmond, VA)

I'm interested in up to 3 if the price is right as I have both a friend as well a neighbor who each want one and after some discussion, we agreed that it made sense to standardize to help troubleshooting, etc. The .45 appears to be $146-$190 shipped, for example: (1) https://www.slickguns.com/produc...

Might consider a PW ARMS AR-12 12gauge shotgun as well.

Thank you!

Re: Best practices: Crossbow scopes

Hi - appreciate the advice and agree with it for the most part. However, is retaining zero largely caused by the vibration of rifle? The crossbow is whisper quiet and has zero vibrations or kick, so in such an easy environment, wouldn't a lower $ scope seem reasonable? Welcome your further thoughts!

Get up to date reloading manuals from the manufacturers and follow the workup data.
You'll live longer and retain more working parts. :friends:
Hah! Sage advice. Do the reloading manuals include primer recommendations?

Thanks!

WTB: Hi-Point 45ACP or 9mm (FTF near Richmond, VA)

Hi - I would like to buy a pistol in used, but very good condition to save a few $. From my research, I'm only interested in the following models as they are inexpensive and seem to perform reasonably well, even if called "ugly" by reviewers: In order of preference (either, not both): (A) ...

Re: Building my first AR

quite cool! Have you considered multiple sights? A friend of mine has been toying with the idea of a powerful (12x+) scope for distance (200m) and a red-dot laser for 50 and estimating elevation above target for intermediate distances. Lasers seem inexpensive and very practical for tactical speed, w...

Re: Home Defense Shotguns Buckshot vs Birdshot

Has anyone tried #8 or equivalent against sheetrock? I'm a newbie, but the analogy with the muzzle energy doesn't compute for me. Each pellet (say 40) doesn't have 1300lbs of energy behind it, but 1/40th, at best, so the equivalent of 1300/40 = 32ft/lbs each. Individually, I'd be surprised if they'd...

I'll be interested to see which States disregard his pen. They have pens too.

Sheriffs run the show until tank treads roll. Reminds me that I need to befriend my county's latest.

Re: Powder for Reloading 45ACP and .223s

Thanks for the advice -- will further investigate the powder you suggested for 223s. - Is there a local (to Richmond) retailer (or two) who generally carry it? - What primers do you use with the powder? How much do they matter? I found this burn-rate comparison: http://www.reloadersnest.com/burnrate...

Re: Rules on buying from individuals

Sage advice!

Would you suggest I insist on taking photos (ie. with a cell phone's digital camera) of their proof of VA residency? I think this would make me nervous (privacy issues even more than gun registration issues), but seems logical.

Rules on buying from individuals

To save a few $, I'd like to buy either a pistol or a shotgun -- used. Is their a condensed "Buying from a private party FAQ"? I've three concerns and questions: 1) Staying legal -- I've begun looking through much of the gun legislation, but it's obtuse. 2) Staying safe -- Where should I m...

Re: What caliber for my wife?

Tell her 45 ACP -- plump is the best shape. After she gets used to `em, then a more practical and lightweight 9mm is an easy sell.

You'll get in trouble if you tell her "those new, thin .17 caliber bullets are sexy".

Re: Current favorite firearm to shoot?

I really enjoy shooting my friend's TAC15 crossbow. Makes almost no noise so we can practice for an hour without disturbing neighbors or his kid, yet is incredibly accurate and powerful. Bullets fragment, but those bolts just keep going -- one went through both sides of a 55gal oil can he had setup ...

Powder for Reloading 45ACP and .223s

Hi - Any suggestions for reloading powder? Is there a site or FAQ for various powders and their attributes? A friend of mine inherited his dad's reloading materials and tools. We figured we'd give it a try on some .45's and .223's he has. Preferences: - Ultra-low residue is most important (he said h...

Best practices: Crossbow scopes

Any advice on using rifle scopes on crossbows? A friend of mine has a big, 400fps crossbow -- TAC-15 -- with which we sometimes go shooting. It comfortably shoots 100yards. The stock 3-9 scope is barely adequate and there are top grade crossbow scopes that are too expensive (Zeiss, Leupold). I'd lik...
