Re: Vortex scopes
I have a Vortex HS LR, and stand Viper 6.5-20x44. I got the Viper for $300, and for that price it's a really good scope. Half the cost of my VX-3, but not have to quality. I also have a HS - LR 2.5x10x32 which I use for competitions on my AR. The XLR reticle with me shoot out to 600 yards with great...

Re: How bad is satellite internet?
I've had Hughesnet satellite internet for the last year. Out where I am in north western Loudoun County, the 4G LTE cell phone data signal is spotty and there are no cable options. Upsides: Hughesnet's new Gen 4 Satellite service is very good. Steady service usually. I can VPN into work, but if I ow...

Re: Remington 700
M700 has the most after market parts, but the Savage short actions are starting to get pretty near par on that too. You can tinker with pretty much everything on a M700 easily except the barrel. If you want to start installing your own aftermarket barrels which are far above either the factory Savag...

Re: SCOTUS: Illegal straw gun purchases are now illegal
I thought this was a decent write up. I wasn't aware of some of the other background, but the former officer involved had some other legal trouble that led to the issue if all this info is correct.

Re: Handloads cycling an AR15
M1A4ME, Good catch, I did use IMR 4198 data now vs. the OP saying he had H4198. I'm not sure if there is a real difference since Hogdon owns IMR powders now? On the Hogdon/IMR reloading data center website they have the following data for H4198: Bullet Weight 55 GR. SFIRE Manufacturer Hodgdon Powder...

Re: Handloads cycling an AR15
FWIW, my AR loads have been using 69gr Sierra bullets over 23.2 grains of IMR 4064. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I think the COAL was 2.235in. Out of a 20in rifle with rifle length gas system the load runs very smoothly and has been consistently 3/4 moa or better at 100 yards. I have a ...

Re: Handloads cycling an AR15
Sounds like you could be a little underpowered. What reloading manual are you using for your data? If you go to the IMR website (http://www.imrpowder.com/) and go into the Reloading Center you'll find this data table for a 55gr bullet IMR 4198: Bullet Weight 55 GR. SPR SP Manufacturer IMR Powder IMR...

Re: Good Tumbler and electronic scale?
I've got the RCBS ChargeMaster 1500 Powder Scale and Dispenser Combo for Christmas and couldn't be happier. It dispenses and weighs IMR 4064 very well which was a pain in the arse to do through a powder drop because it is a long extruded powder. Just got the Hornady tumbler and it is working pretty ...

Hard to say really, but I think there is a good argument to be made that the GZ shooting would have been "excusable homicide" versus "justifiable homicide" if the thing happened in VA.

Generally, I consider an AR-15 a precision instrument, and an AK-47 a volume instrument.

HB 878 Law-enforcement certification of certain firearms
I've been working with my HOD member Dave LaRock since he was elected this past November to get a bill in regarding CLEO sign off on Form 4's. His office has been great to work with. After some back and forth, here is what has been drafted and submitted: SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED: Law-enforcement certif...

Re: Democrats now control the top 5 positions in VA
John Whitbeck is the GOP State Senate candidate in the 33rd. He was nominated this past Monday. I've been working with him for about 3 years now, he's a solid conservative and pro- 2A guy too. If people want to donate they can at http://www.johnwhitbeck.com/. The Governor has to set a date for the S...

Re: Democrats now control the top 5 positions in VA
Luckily, we have a pretty weak governorship in VA and we still control the HOD. If we can win the 33rd Senate Special election in a few weeks (Herring's seat) then we will also control the State Senate. The next 4 years aren't going to be good, but it's far from a certainty that they will be really ...

Ken won the 10th district this last election, and Romney won it in 2012. It's more solid Republican than most realize due to it being very specifically gerrymandered by the state legislature.
