I love my .45 Rock Island Tactical - which they make in 9mm - they also have a high cap 9mm 1911-style. The thumb safety needed to be replaced immediately after purchase - it was defective from the beginning, I should have checked it out better at the show. I had to send it in, RIA paid for shipping both ways. RIAs are great guns for the money, and their customer service is top notch. Lots more info over at the RIA section of 1911forum.org

I've read and heard good things about the Springfield EMP.

Kimber Pro Carry II

Just bought one in 9mm. Haven't fired it. Feels good. Looks great.

If you have the money the Night Hawk Ladyhawk is a very nice 9mm 1911.

Don't know about the Ladyhawk, but I recently ordered a Nighthawk Custom Dominator in .45ACP, and they told me I'd be waiting at least 26 weeks, so chances are you'll have plenty of time to save up. Reckon the centenial year, along with Obamamania, has all the 1911 folks way behind on orders.

Most of Kimber's line of M1911s are available in either 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP. I have 3 Kimbers, all .45ACP, and highly recommend them.
