Fort Belvoir

Post by led0321 »

I am a bowhunting maniac and I have heard the bowhunting up there is pretty good. What are yall's opinions? I will be driving up from Quantico so it is to far to drive often.

I hunted Belvoir and Quantico in the mid 90s when I worked at Arlington Hall Station. I did better gun hunting at Quantico since I was a bowhunting newbie at Belvoir. Believe I could have made a "Dorf Does Bowhunting" video making all the usual beginner mistakes. Fondly remember hanging on to a tree in the middle of putting in tree steps when a real nice buck showed up and chased a hot doe around and around the tree I was hanging onto. Yes, stand and bow were on the ground still.
Belvoir was worth the commute, just remember that leaving Belvoir anytime after 3 p.m. M-F heading south will put you in rush hours traffic. The extended season is an advantage and check on depredation hunts with the check-in station.
Either place will require a qualification with the bow. I don't remember if hunting the training areas at Quantico required qualification but the cantonment area required it. If I lived closer I would still be hunting both sites.
Good luck. I believe you'll enjoy Belvoir.
