Finally fired my Sig Sauer P238 Saturday..........

Post by dorminWS »

Bought it months ago and stuck it into my console beside my Taurus Judge. I figured, "Da Judge for close-in work, and the Sig if I need a POCKET gun to leave the car with." It appealed to me because it was the first real pocket gun (defined by me as "can I cover it with the palm and fingers of one hand?" that had an honest-to goodness, real SAFETY on it; a thumb safety just like the good old 1911, BYGOSH! It was purty, too. I posted a picture of it back then. I realized Saturday that I was going to shoot some new 1911s and had never shot the Sig, so I took a box of .380 with me.

IT'S THE BEST DAMN POCKET GUN I'VE EVER FIRED! I can easily put 6 shots into a 6-inch circle shooting fast at 40 yards. Nearly had to whup my son to get it back after he fired it.

YUP! Sig took the design from the Colt Mustang series, and came away a WINNER!

Colt, when under foreign management, decided to get out of the "pocket pistol" business... like idiots... right before CHP's became "SHALL ISSUES!"

Oh Well! Colt's loss... Sig's gain!

Anyone know if the mags for the SIG 238 are interchangeable with the Colt Mustangs?

Did some background...

THE MAGS ARE INTERCHANGABLE! Plus? THE SLIDES ARE INTERCHANGEABLE AS WELL! Wouldn't recommend it, but read multiple forums, and guys are trying the SIG slides on Mustang frames, and they function by hand.

Personally? I wish Sig would cut out the ugly color combos, smooth out the lines, and put Hogue, or Pachmeyer panels on the weapons.

I love my P238. The only thing I wish they would do is make a set of grips with the laser housed in the grip itself, something like the one in the picture below. The current laser options mount in front of the trigger guard, adding some bulk and requiring new holsters.

I hear ya -
Got mine on consignment at Guns and Ammo in Nokesville. I had to change out the recoil spring to a stronger one from Wolff to allow the gun to operate properly. It was failing to eject, stovepiping and even failing to go back into battery. The new Wolff spring has corrected ALL of that - cool

I also got a set of grips from Sarge's Grips to replace the ugly grey plastic ones - see for yourself, but the pics don't tell the entire picture - I would need video to truly show them off because the grips are 3D holographic. They are the Pomelle Bubinga grips in low sheen finish and the depth and appearance actually changes as the angle changes - truly a work of art and an absolutely perfect fit as well.

With the Galco pocket holster, it disappears into a rear pocket. I'm just still waiting for the Crossbreed MinniTuck IWB holster to arrive...

i use the crossbreed minituck as well. The P238 really disappears with it. I like the grips, going to check out what other options he has!
