Got My Fairfax County CHP in 49 Days

Post by roastdawgg »

Hey all, I've been lurking on the boards for a month or so now but today I FINALLY got my CHP from Fairfax County. Mailbox to mailbox it took 49 days. I called the clerk on Monday, 45 days after I dropped my application in the mailbox, and was told that my permit had been signed by the judge the previous Friday. It then took 7 days to process and mail it out to me.

Wore my S&W M&P9c (locked and loaded) in a Galco KingTuk IWB holster out to dinner with my wife and mother-in-law (neither knew I was carrying) and did some shopping afterwards. I kind of expected to feel different but it actually felt really natural.

On day 46, you should have called the clerk and demanded your temporary permit.

Congratulations... and you're right... if you're prepared, educated and have the right equipment, it does feel very natural.

actually, after 45 days IIRC you can carry the receipt as your temp permit.

Not exactly.....the receipt means nothing. The clerk has to issue a certified copy of the application.

If the court has not issued the permit or determined that the applicant is disqualified within 45 days of the date of receipt noted on the application, the clerk shall certify on the application that the 45-day period has expired, and send a copy of the certified application to the applicant. The certified application shall serve as a de facto permit, which shall expire 90 days after issuance, and shall be recognized as a valid concealed handgun permit when presented with a valid government-issued photo identification

Thanks everyone. I have been carrying for a few weeks now without incident. Slowly spreading the gospel to friends and family about the right of the people to protect themselves. I have been going to the range on an almost weekly basis and have become pretty proficient with my firearm. The M&P is a dream to shoot and pretty awesome to carry.

Thanks Pro, I actually received mine ON the 46th day if I am recalling correctly. Typical for FFX county. It's been a while so my memory may be foggy, I know it was just there at the 45 day mark, either a day before or a day after. I just remember laughing about it.
