CenturyArms AK GP1975

Afternoon all-

Looking for any present owners of a Century Arms AK47. I've talked to a few salesmen at local gunshops/some friends/scoured the internet, and have concluded these are pretty solid weapons. I'm personally not too fond of long guns, but from the strip down vids I've seen on youtube, everything looks pretty self-explanatory. I do however understand that these weapons specifically, are "mass produced"..I'm fully aware of the risk - just looking to spend between 400-500 units of glorious fiat currency.

I've seen some priced @ over $500, but that seems a little high (after digging and finding cheaper websites). The cheapest option I've found is below (don't want to violate any board regulations on posting from other websites- but I think I'm kosher)...

CenturyArms GP1975- $428.00

It's for $428- comes with 1 mag, and some other accessories. There's a shop near my place that charges about $40 FFL transfer fee- so I'm thinking probably around $500-$525 out the door.

From what I've gathered on LG laws in VA, it's pretty straightforward, and I shouldn't have a problem picking up the weapon. Since I am not a resident, I was told that I'd simply need 2 forms of ID (with matching addresses), and a simple background check (no problem here). Other than that, I'm fairly certain I'm good to go.

I haven't seen any laws against a compensator/muzzle brakes?

I'm just thinking that I should probably try to work with a local shop to find me the weapon, rather than pay the $40-50 transfer fee to purchase from another dealer. I just haven't seen too many shops that stock something as specific as a GP1975. Just looking for general experience/thoughts for similar issues...Also, any firsthand accounts of the weapon would help too!!

You might need 3 forms of I.D. if the AK has a 30 rd magazine and/or a removable brake / compensator. I used my VA D/L, VA CHP and VA voter card.

Have you looked at any of the Interarms AK's?. I bought mine from Atlantic Firearms in MD.

See if you can score one of the Henderson Defense "certified WASRs". The company goes over the guns and fixes what's wrong with them. They've got a solid rep.

Diomed- Awesome resource you found there. Called up the shop, spoke with AJ- going to be putting in an order for one of these within the next month. He went through some sort of shipping error and is presently out of stock until 2nd week of April.

He personally "sits down" with each weapon and runs through everything just shy of test fire...Great recommendation on your end Diomed! Not a bad deal at all...

That'll give me time to find a cheap dealer around here to transfer the weapon to.

Been thinking about picking up one of them myself. A cheap way of teaching myself how to do the drill 'n' mill conversion on a gun that's known to be good, instead of on a nice (meaning pricey) Saiga or Arsenal.
