ar-10 scope

Post by 62flint »

I am looking to get a new long range scope for my ar-10.
I am deciding between a luepold er/t or night force scope.
Any help on a scope/ and mounts?

I've got the AR10t and put an IOR 10x 56mm on it. I used the Armalite scope mount.
The carbine got an EOtech
I'm betting it depends on what you want the rifle to do.

I would think a Leupold would serve you well, personally I'd go with a 3.5 to 10 but it depends where you will be shooting. As for a mount, give the folks at Larue Tactical a call, they make high quality mounts and have awesome customer service.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

It depends on what you want to use it for, but on an AR10 either scope should work just fine. The same is true of any name brand mounts.

I think the NF scopes are better than the Leupolds, but our military has used several Leupold models on their guns just fine (they have used NF too). Overall the NF is a better built scope (which also makes it heavy) and the turrets are some of the best in the business. IMHO, their glass is slightly better than the Leupolds, but still falls short of a S&B/Premier/Hendsoldt. While there are more expensive scopes which may offer better features/glass, I think the NF scopes are probably the best built/strongest scopes around or at least a close second to Premier.

It sounds like you are looking to build a DMR like rifle for longer range engagements? Personally, I would go with a smaller scope to keep weight down and retain handling of the rifle, but if you are set on are larger scope (which it sounds like) the 3.5-15x NF is the best in that price range IMHO. The F1 is a great scope too, but unless you do a lot of ranging with the reticle it is hard to justify the increase in cost. For a bolt .308, I'd go 3.5-15x NF F1 all the way...until you are interested in spending $3k+.

Again, on an AR10 I would go lightweight for the scope rings. The NF rings are good, so are badgers, etc. Lots of options, but I would go for the lightweight Al/Ti models. If you really want more than just rings (say QD), Larue is a good choice or if you wanted more features you could do something like this: http://www.spuhr.com/ Their sight base with a built in cant bubble and rail for a T1 is sweet!
