Just FYI, part of the reason Sikhs carry the dagger is to prevent subjegation by Muslims. At least according to some sources.

Re: Religious daggers allowed at school
So much for 0 tolerance huh? Looks like Michigan is another state we can kiss bye bye to. Wonder if Cananda would take it in trade for something good? Let's see what they say if just one kid gets cut with that ridiculous looking halloween prop. But seriously that is truly nonsense when you see other kids getting expelled for a toy gun or little paring knife . Seems things are way out of balance when the schools no longer can have the Lords Prayer in the morning or create nativity scenes for a play ,but these little shi7s can come to school armed with school board blessing.....

It seems that those writing to comment on this story are not enthralled with the decision, neither here nor on the news page. I don't understand what the problem is. It was carefully pointed out in the story that the knives are dull...unlike them damned GI Joe toy guns or charm bracelet guns.

I guess zero tolerance only applies if you aren't a minority?

Even more disturbing is that those charged with educating our youth can't think matters through any better than this. We are testing the wrong bunch with the SOLs.

The teachers sort of agree with you. Well, I'll give 'em this, they have learned to obfuscate. They may not know the definition for it, but they sure can do it.TheGodfather wrote:The teachers sort of agree with you. Wow, cool word. Obfuscate. Had to look that one up myself. Spot on though.

I don't like this because it's a carve out and I hate carve outs.

And in other news a kid in good ole Virginia is expelled and has assault charges levied for blowing plastic spit balls...this is utterly ridiculous. And we laugh and somehow justify them letting kids carry religious daggers. I dont think so.

Yeoow! The sheriffs dept. got involved in that? Some people need to look up the meanings of "intimidate", "threaten", and "harm" as well as "common sense".zephyp wrote:And in other news a kid in good ole Virginia is expelled and has assault charges levied for blowing plastic spit balls...this is utterly ridiculous. Re: Religious daggers allowed at school
As an afterthought, as the boy is a juvenile I suppose that juvenile intake had a thing or two to say about this also.
Re: Religious daggers allowed at school
I'm pretty sure I could kill someone with a pen , pencil(only a number 2), paperclip,, the wire from a spiral notebook, a text book, or almost any other random thing a kid would take to school. Maybe it's time these yahoos focus on what they are hired to do (i.e. teach) and stop worrying about spit wads. Really? Making a good spit wad was a requirement to pass 4th grade back in my day!And in other news a kid in good ole Virginia is expelled and has assault charges levied for blowing plastic spit balls...this is utterly ridiculous. When I was a kid, a friend and I took to shooting soybeans out of straws on the school bus. That may have been the first ever Soft Air gun.

@menegene - my first thought -- spit wads and the kid was expelled and charged with assault while "foreigners" are allowed to openly carry daggers...pitiful.

Let's see, I'm a Christian, "turn the other cheek?" Let's see, I only have four (4) and they have all already been turned and burned.

Where are all the liberals pushing separation of church and state on this ruling? They won't allow the 10 commandments posted anywhere but they let a kid carry a knife.
